New to Grow
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with over 20 years of experience helping adults navigate depression, anxiety, trauma, grief, life transitions, and relationship challenges. Throughout my career, I have worked in a variety of clinical settings supporting individuals from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. In addition to my clinical work, I serve as a tenured professor of Social Work and Human Services, where I have the privilege of educating and mentoring future helping professionals. I have a special passion for working with women who are ready to reconnect with their inner strength, build self-confidence, improve their emotional well-being, and create meaningful, lasting change in their lives. Whether you are feeling overwhelmed, emotionally exhausted, or simply looking for a greater sense of purpose and balance, I strive to provide a safe, compassionate, and nonjudgmental space where healing can begin.
Your first session is an opportunity for us to get to know one another. We'll discuss what brought you to therapy, the challenges you're currently facing, and what you hope to achieve. I'll also ask questions about your personal history, strengths, relationships, and any previous experiences with therapy so I can better understand your unique story. Together, we'll begin identifying goals and developing a treatment plan that reflects your needs, values, and pace. Most importantly, my hope is that you'll leave the session feeling heard, understood, and encouraged that meaningful change is possible.
My approach to therapy is collaborative, practical, and holistic. I primarily use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), while integrating mindfulness, self-compassion, and wellness-based interventions tailored to each client's unique needs. At the heart of my work is the belief that the mind and body are deeply interconnected. Just as emotional pain can manifest physically, intentional movement can become a powerful pathway toward healing. Depending on your goals and comfort level, our work may include traditional talk therapy alongside journaling, mindfulness practices, group support, and other mind-body interventions. This philosophy also serves as the foundation for The Nersy MethodTM, an integrative emotional wellness program for women that combines evidence-based therapeutic strategies with movement and self-reflection to promote lasting healing and personal growth. My goal is to help you not only reduce symptoms but also build the tools, resilience, and confidence to create meaningful, lasting change.
My ideal clients are women navigating anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, or significant life transitions who may feel overwhelmed, disconnected, or uncertain about what comes next. They are seeking a safe and supportive space to better understand themselves, heal from difficult experiences, and develop healthier ways of coping. I especially enjoy working with women who are ready to reconnect with their strengths, build self-compassion and confidence, and create meaningful, lasting change in their lives. In addition to individual therapy, I am developing a women’s therapeutic group designed to support emotional wellness through a unique integration of therapeutic discussion, self-reflection, and intentional movement. The group will provide a supportive space for women to strengthen self-awareness, self-compassion, and confidence while connecting with others. The program is expected to begin in September 2026.
I use CBT to help clients recognize how their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are connected. Together, we explore patterns that may be contributing to stress, anxiety, depression, or feeling stuck, and work toward developing healthier and more helpful ways of responding. I also help clients build practical coping skills they can use in everyday life to feel more confident, balanced, and in control.
I use psychodynamic therapy to help clients better understand how past experiences and important relationships may influence the way they feel, think, and relate to others today. Together, we explore recurring patterns, emotional responses, and experiences that may be affecting their current lives. This deeper understanding can help clients make more intentional choices, develop healthier relationships, and create meaningful change.
I approach therapy with cultural sensitivity by recognizing that each client’s experiences are shaped by their unique background, values, family, community, and life experiences. I remain mindful of my own perspectives and assumptions while creating space for clients to share what is meaningful to them. My goal is to provide care that respects each person’s identity and experiences without making assumptions about who they are or what they need.
I support clients as they navigate grief and loss, recognizing that there is no single or “right” way to grieve. I help clients make space for difficult emotions, understand how loss may be affecting different areas of their lives, and find ways to adjust while maintaining a meaningful connection to what or whom they have lost. My approach honors each person’s individual experience, values, culture, and beliefs.
When faith or spirituality is important to a client, I welcome it as part of the therapeutic process. I help clients explore how their beliefs, values, and spiritual practices may provide meaning, comfort, strength, or guidance during difficult seasons of life. I follow each client’s lead and respect their individual beliefs, including those that may differ from my own.
