New to Grow
My name is LaRhonda Lang. I am an African American therapist who values creating a space that honors both your individual story and the bigger cultural contexts we live in. I know that therapy can sometimes feel intimidating, but I offer a space where you can bring your whole self- your thoughts, your emotions, and your lived experiences- WITHOUT JUDGEMENT. I'm here to listen, support, and help you find strategies that actually fit your life. Your therapy is tailored just for you.
During our first session, we will explore what your concerns are. I will actively listen as you tell me about yourself and your stressors. We will then define your treatment goals. This encompasses what it is that you desire to achieve during your healing journey. We will then address any questions or concerns that you have. This may include barriers to your treatment such as time & scheduling, location (virtual or in-person), fear of being vulnerable, low motivation/ambivalence, previous negative experiences, stigmas, etc.
My therapeutic approach is unique because it is tailored to accommodate your specific needs. Every client's story is going to be different, and I provide many modalities to ensure that each client is able to receive top quality care that addresses their specific, unique needs. My greatest strength is listening for understanding vs. listening to respond. Understanding why my clients present, think, and behave in the manners that they do helps me to get a better understanding of them and their specific needs and which modalities will be best suited for them. I have had many success stories, and I look forward to assisting you in your successful journey to healing.
While I am a very diverse therapist, I believe that representation is an important element in therapy. I want to be a representation to people of color. I want to be a part of the change to remove the stigmas in our culture and communities. My ideal clients are the ones who are motivated for treatment and ready to take the necessary steps to achieve their goals. While I understand that there is uncertainty when it comes to change, I also believe that having a growth mindset can be a catalyst in recreating the life you envision for yourself. This involves being open to accept challenges and a willingness to grow. You cannot heal what you hide.
Using CBT, we will identify and challenge cognitive distortions. We will explore behavioral techniques and skills training to assist you on your journey.
Implementing DBT will help with interpersonal effectiveness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and mindfulness. Developing these skills helps you to better manage life stressors in a more productive way.
EMDR helps to process trauma, PTSD, anxiety, and other distressing life situations. In my experience using this treatment method, clients have been able to process memories in a healthy way.
My therapy style is collaborative. I use motivational interviewing, along with CBT and DBT, to help clients strengthen their own motivation and commitment to change.
