She has over thirteen years of direct service experience - providing therapeutic interventions and counseling services - in underserved and impoverished communities. Currently she manages the Youth Clinical Services for Chicago Survivors, a crime victim service organization, responding to homicide victims in the city of Chicago. Her passion in clinical practice is to bridge communication gaps within the family and empower this dynamic after the exposure to crisis and trauma. She is currently trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Children and Family Traumatic Stress Intervention (CFTSI), Thera-play, Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF- CBT) and most recently (2022) Brainspotting. JaShawn has presented on topics regarding youth in trauma, comprehensive services for families impacted by urban violence and trainings for law enforcement servicing families and youth in the aftermath of homicide. In the spirit of altruism and community she mentors youth impacted by the criminal justice system, and as a board member for Sister House Recovery Home in the Austin community – providing shelter to women impacted by addiction and homelessness. JaShawn believes we all have the power to heal when we realize that we don’t have to uncover and discover that power alone. The journey of discovery with clients is one of her greatest passions and gifts in practice.
