New to Grow
My name is Virginia and I'm licensed clinical social worker. My pronouns are she/her and I am a cis gender lesbian. My background is in addiction medicine with a focus on recovery from PTSD. I am especially interested in helping members of the LGBTQIA+ community. I can assist with a variety of issues. I see Therapy as a team effort. We will work together to decide on goals and a treatment plan tailored to your needs.
The first sessions are so exciting! Taking the first step to implement change in your life for the better! During our first session, we will discuss what your expectations are for Therapy. If you aren't sure about goals, that's ok! We can figure them out together. We will also discuss how your sessions are documented and what information is shared. Your privacy is of the utmost importance to me. We will discuss informed consent, what that looks like and what it means for you.
I often hear from clients that they appreciate that I am "so real." I am direct with my clients and pride myself on clear communication. I hold my clients with unconditional positive regard and support. I will never judge you. I will never say intentionally say hurtful things with regard to your sexual orientation or gender identity. I love to be able to show progress over time using simple tracking methods from Cogmitive Behavior Therapy. This way, you can see progress in real time! I love seeing my clients grow and change as they move into the life they deserve.
I am most passionate about helping other members of the LGBTQIA+ community work through whatever barriers stand between them and their goals. As we begin this therapeutic journey together, my hope is that you will feel safe and supported throughout our sessions. I hold the therapeutic relationship as a sacred duty. I hold a safe space for clients to explore immediate and long term goals. Immediate goals can include managing distressing emotions, exploring relationship challenges or improving your communication style. These are a few examples. The possibilities are endless! Once we set short and long term goals, we establish a plan and how to track progress. My motto is "roll with it." So if the established plan and strategies don't work, we can pivot. Know there is always more we can do - it is never hopeless! If you are experiencing challenges in pursuing your life goals or need help figuring them out, I'm here to help!
I trained in CBT with the Beck Institute. I use this intervention as the basis for treatment where appropriate.
I am trained in EMDR Therapy which is designed to help clients suffering from PTSD.
