My name is Brandon A. Sandate Rodriguez and I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the State of California with four years of professional clinical work experience. I have experience in helping clients with stress and anxiety, depression, lgbtq+ related issues, trauma and abuse, motivation, self-esteem, and confidence. I have worked with adolescents and young adults in the juvenile justice system and with adults with serious and persistent mental health concerns. In working with marginalized communities my focus is toward enhancing self-awareness by emphasizing the importance of understanding one’s culture and identity. I aim to connect deeply with my clients and build professional and supportive relationships that can provide healing and growth.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

During our first session, we will be reviewing your goals and expectations regarding therapy. We will be discussing limits of confidentiality and other legal and ethical concerns important in this work. Your first session with me will be a combination of assessment of important information I believe needed to gain a higher understanding of your life and with discussing your current presenting concern. In your next sessions, however, you will be taking the lead.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I love to learn and in being a therapist we learn and change every day in our clinical work and in our relationships with clients. I remember as a child always being curious as to how others viewed the world and why individuals thought, felt, and behaved differently. I was blessed to experience the transformative effect therapy can have on one's life. I believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion. I will tailor our dialog and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I look forward to connecting with you and am grateful to be with you on this journey. I believe that you are the expert of your story and you have many strengths that will assist you in overcoming situations and matters that challenge you. It takes courage to seek out a more fulfilling and happier life and to take the first steps towards a change.

My treatment methods

Existential

My theoretical orientation utilizes a transpersonal existential approach to my clinical practice and therapeutic relationships. We will be integrating your spirituality and experiences of connectedness that are beyond the adult ego toward fostering higher human development. This means in our work together we will be reviewing matters relating to human values and spiritual experiences in hopes of involving a deepening and integration of one's sense of connectedness, whether it be with self, community, nature, or the entire cosmos. My existential framework and embodiment allow the clinical focus to be aimed toward change and higher consciousness of the decisions we have taken in our lives. Existentialists believe each person has a unique identity that can be known only through relationships with others. We must and can continually re-create ourselves because life’s meaning constantly changes and anxiety is part of the human condition. Our work together will focus on identifying four "ultimate concerns of life"—death, freedom, existential isolation, and meaninglessness and your confrontation with each.
