(she/her)
’m Lena Allen, LCSW. I graduated from the University of California and bring over 25 years of experience working with adults across diverse backgrounds. My practice is dedicated to offering compassionate, client-centered care that values each person’s unique experiences and goals. I use evidence-based approaches such as CBT, DBT, and mind-body techniques to guide individuals through life’s complexities, helping them build resilience, foster self-awareness, and achieve meaningful personal growth.
In the first session, clients can expect a welcoming, open environment where we’ll begin by discussing their reasons for seeking therapy and any specific goals or concerns they have. I’ll also review important aspects such as confidentiality, informed consent, and how the therapeutic process works. Together, we’ll explore what’s currently challenging and identify areas for growth, all while ensuring they feel heard and comfortable. This session is a chance for us to get to know each other, set initial goals, and start building a trusting foundation for our work together.
One of my greatest strengths as a therapist is my ability to create a warm, nonjudgmental space that helps clients feel comfortable exploring even the most challenging areas of their lives. With over 25 years of experience, I bring both depth and flexibility to my practice, adapting evidence-based approaches like CBT, DBT, and mind-body techniques to meet each client’s unique needs. I genuinely believe in the resilience and potential for growth in each individual, and my clients often appreciate my blend of empathy and practical guidance. Working with me, clients can expect a collaborative and empowering experience that prioritizes their goals, fosters self-awareness, and supports lasting, meaningful change.
I am best positioned to serve adults who are seeking support in navigating life transitions, managing stress, improving relationships, and addressing emotional challenges such as anxiety, depression, and trauma. My ideal client is open to self-reflection, willing to actively engage in the therapeutic process, and motivated to explore new perspectives and strategies for growth. I especially enjoy working with individuals who are ready to build resilience, deepen self-understanding, and commit to creating meaningful change in their lives.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I have experience with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) as a foundational approach to help clients understand and reshape the connection between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. I use CBT techniques to help clients identify and challenge negative thought patterns and replace them with healthier, more constructive ones. By integrating CBT strategies, such as cognitive restructuring and behavioral activation, I work collaboratively with clients to develop practical coping skills and set achievable goals. This approach has been particularly effective in helping clients manage symptoms related to anxiety, depression, and relationship issues, empowering them to make positive changes and improve their overall well-being.
Brainspotting
I use Brainspotting as a therapeutic technique to help clients process deeply rooted emotional trauma and access healing on a neurobiological level. By guiding clients to identify specific "brainspots" – eye positions that correlate with emotional distress – I support them in accessing, processing, and releasing trauma held in both the body and brain. This approach has been especially effective for clients dealing with complex trauma, anxiety, and PTSD, allowing them to move past blocks and achieve a greater sense of calm and resilience. Brainspotting has become a powerful tool in my work to help clients connect with their innate ability to heal.
Couples Counseling
I use couples counseling to support partners in building healthier, more resilient relationships by fostering open communication, empathy, and understanding. I work with couples to identify patterns of conflict, enhance their emotional connection, and develop effective strategies for managing challenges together. Through evidence-based techniques, including active listening exercises and conflict-resolution skills, I help couples strengthen their bond and create a foundation for long-term growth and satisfaction in their relationship.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
I use Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) to help clients build skills in emotional regulation, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness, and mindfulness. I incorporate DBT techniques to support clients in managing intense emotions, reducing impulsive behaviors, and improving their relationships. By using tools like emotion regulation worksheets, mindfulness exercises, and role-playing for effective communication, I guide clients in developing healthier coping mechanisms and achieving greater stability and resilience in their daily lives.
Mind-body approach
I integrate mind-body approaches to help clients connect physical sensations with emotional experiences, fostering a more holistic path to healing. Techniques such as guided breathing, mindfulness exercises, and grounding activities encourage clients to become more aware of their body's responses to stress and emotions. This approach promotes self-regulation, enhances resilience, and empowers clients to better manage their mental health by tapping into the mind-body connection.
