Ideal clients
I work best with individuals willing to confront negative patterns of behavior that have roots in their pasts. Our pasts can help us understand why we "do what we do" however, our pasts do not have to define us for the rest of our lives. Therapy is ideal for addressing the aforementioned. We have the power to confront unhealthy beliefs and thinking patterns. These beliefs and patterns can cause mental health problems including mood disorders, and generalized anxiety disorders. They can also cause us to engage in unhealthy relationships with spouses, family members, friends and colleagues. I love being a therapist! It's an honor to have the opportunity to be an agent of change, a collaborator, a guide to better health in another person's life.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is one of the most common methods of talk therapy, performed by a mental health counselor, such as psychotherapist, therapist, or social worker. I'm a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and I use CBT to help clients identify negative or harmful thinking patterns. By focusing on your thoughts, beliefs and attitudes (otherwise knows as your cognitive processes), it becomes possible to change patterns of behavior by responding to negative thoughts in a more effective and positive way.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) is a type of talk therapy (psychotherapy). It’s based on cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), but it’s specially adapted for people who experience emotions very intensely. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a type of talk therapy that helps people understand how thoughts affect emotions and behaviors. “Dialectical” means combining opposite ideas. I use DBT to help clients accept the reality of their lives and their behaviors, as well as helping them learn to change their lives, including their unhelpful behaviors.
Family Therapy
Bowenian family therapy typically involves multiple family members working together to address family conflicts and improve relationships within the family unit. Bowen family therapy can include couple’s work, parent and child relationship work, work with blended families, or work with multiple generations of a family. However, as Bowenian therapist I mainly use it with individuals. This type of Individualized therapy includes an emphasis on identifying intergenerational conflicts and patterns, setting appropriate boundaries and differentiation between the individual and their family members, and communication skills. If my client wants to work on these issues and including additional family members is not possible, they can still benefit from techniques of Bowenian family therapy.
