Scott Olson
I’m a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with over 30 years of experience helping people navigate life’s challenges. I work with adolescents and adults experiencing anxiety, depression, ADHD, OCD, relationship difficulties, and life transitions. My approach is warm, conversational, practical, and collaborative. I believe therapy should be a place where you feel comfortable being yourself, without judgment or pressure to have everything figured out. I draw primarily from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), while incorporating other approaches based on your individual needs.
Therapy doesn’t have to feel intimidating. Let’s have an honest conversation, find some perspective, and work toward meaningful change together.
I value genuine connection, thoughtful conversation, and even humor when appropriate. We’ll work together to better understand what’s getting in your way, build useful tools, and make meaningful changes in your everyday life. My goal isn’t simply to help you feel better during our sessions, but to help you carry that progress into the rest of your life.
First session
Our first session is an opportunity to get acquainted, talk about what brings you to therapy, and begin identifying what you’d like to change. I’ll ask questions about your experiences, concerns, and goals, but there’s no expectation that you share everything at once. My priority is helping you feel comfortable, heard, and understood. We’ll start developing a direction for our work together, and I hope you’ll leave feeling that you’ve found someone who genuinely listens and can help you move forward.
Strengths
I bring decades of clinical experience, a strong foundation in CBT, and an approachable, down-to-earth style. I’m a good listener, but I’m also an active participant in therapy. I’ll ask questions, offer perspectives, challenge unhelpful patterns when appropriate, and help you develop practical strategies you can use outside our sessions. I believe a strong therapeutic relationship is essential. I strive to create an environment where people feel heard, respected, and comfortable enough to be honest, even when the subject matter is difficult. And yes, there’s room for humor in therapy, too.
Ideal clients
My ideal client is someone who wants to better understand themselves and make meaningful changes in their life. They may be struggling with anxiety, depression, ADHD, OCD, relationship challenges, or simply feeling stuck. I enjoy working with adolescents and adults who are open to exploring their experiences, questioning familiar patterns, and developing practical tools for moving forward. You don’t need to have everything figured out or even know exactly where to begin. Curiosity, honesty, and a willingness to work together are great starting points.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients understand how their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors influence one another. Together, we identify patterns that may be contributing to difficulties and develop practical strategies for making meaningful changes. My approach is collaborative, flexible, and focused on helping you apply what we discuss to everyday life.
