Ruth I Whittington
I am a CBT therapist who uses a variety of therapuetic techniques to help clients recognize and understand what changes they can make to lessen and eliminate unhealthy patterns.
First session
First session is getting to know each other, and gather some background information before sharing what issues are present and what changes the client would like make.
Strengths
I am a good listener, I am approachable and people find me easy to talk to. I am naturally curious and receive enjoyment and challenge from the work I do. I find people fascinating.
Ideal clients
I enjoy working with couples, families, adults, and young adults. There are so many ways to connect and help them understand their challenges and how to overcome them in healthy ways. I also appreciate the ability to add Neurofeedback to any in office session. This can help clients to lessen their anxiety and depression, while in an office session along with other benefits.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
CBT offers tools to be taught in session and practiced in life. I have seen progress and understanding with these tools.
Gottman method
I use the Gottman method with couples. It is practical, easy to see communication change and taking individual responsibility for behavior
Neurofeedback
Neurofeedback is an excellent tool to support all types of therapy styles. This treatment is performed in the office and allows for change with anxiety, depression, ADHD, tinnitus, short term memory issues and sleep issues to mention a few.
