I'm a Licensed Professional Counsellor (LPC) based in Virginia. I received my Masters from Marymount University and have been practicing for 23 years. I help individuals struggling with a variety of issues including anxiety, life transitions (college, moving, career change, divorce, etc.), depression, fertility issues, couples and family therapy. I use a combination of cognitive behavior therapist (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and a psychodynamic approach to address symptoms and help more effectively reach solutions and therapy goals.
The first session is really a chance to see if we think it would be a good fit and to get an idea of what the presenting issues are for the client.
I am able to help clients navigate difficult conflict and emotions while teasing apart their negative thought patterns to help see possible strategies and solutions. I like to collaborate with clients and meet them where they are to help support them in the best way possible.
I am happy to work with clients in my specialty areas and can also do assessment and shorter term/brief therapy.
CBT is one of the most effective methods to help change a person's mood and self talk to be more positive and healthy. It helps to reframe negative thought patterns for quicker relief of symptoms.
DBT is full of many great skills and strategies for combating anxiety and depression, as well as communication for families and couples.
The Gottman method has been shown to produce good results when working with couples in conflict. It focuses on communication and the foundational friendship of couples and helps to resolve conflict and build up respect and affection.
Psychodynamic therapy aims to include how past experiences shape present experiences for each individual. This can be helpful for clients to understand certain patterns of behavior.
