New to Grow
Hello. I am a caregiver by nature and have worked in many roles in healthcare. I love helping and healing. I often use art therapy techniques in therapy that heal by putting things on paper to make thoughts and feelings tangible, so we can see them, touch them and wrap our mind around it and what heals. I was born into a musical family and see how music can be a powerful tool to heal, to manage and to cope. My practice is grounded in proven strategies and most of my clients do get better. Therapy works. I have seen it thousands of times at this point in my career. I can only hope that what has helped others will help you meet your therapy goals too.
The first session is about getting to know you. We will review some of your history and what you hope to accomplish in therapy. We will make therapy goals and I will provided emotional support and education about strategies proven to help in situations like yours. I look forward to meeting you.
I have worked in healthcare for 40 years in different roles. I am a caregiver and I am all about helping people make their life what they want it to be. We all need emotional support. I find myself often telling people all the things I see they do well. I also help people build skills to move forward and accomplish their therapy goals. I tend to see the good in everyone and this trait serves me well as a therapist. I also see that therapy can be hard work. Making change can be a challenge and I can only hope to have as much compassion as I have challenge in my work. If you are not ready for things to change and get better, I may not be the best fit for you. It is always ok to try a different therapist if you are not getting what you need from therapy.. I wish everyone the best on their journey.
I have 40 years of experience with ADHD. 2 of my children were diagnosed by the age of 5. I have much to share in proven strategies that help the children and the parents who deal with these symptoms. I also began my career in healthcare nursing. I have a specialty in medical family therapy and have worked with children who have cancer and diabetes. I have Hospice experience to help with the grief and loss that comes with illness. We experience all kinds of loss in life an we grieve them. I also have experience with maternal health and post partem depression.
Other specialties
I identify as
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy addresses the connection between thinking, feeling and behaviors. lt helps people to find balance between the three to improve symptoms and build skills to manage the areas that cause struggle in life. This type of therapy has had proven results for over 30 years now. We do have the power to choose how we think, feel and react. We feel empowered as these skills grow.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
DBT therapy is a combination on Mindfulness, Distress tolerance, Emotional Regulation and Interpersonal Effectiveness. Proven strategies build skills to manage challenges and it all begins with managing ourself and our reactions to the world.
Grief Therapy
Grief is something we all experience at some point in life. Grief is normal but it is not easy and it doesn't always make sense. Everyone grieves differently and even the same person can have different grief experiences with different losses. Loss is not always about death, we grieve many types of loss. My training in grief work began with Hospice in 2009. I began my journey in healthcare in nursing and have a specialty in medical family therapy. Hospice was a great way to use my medical work experience in a new career in counseling. The lesson I learned there forever changed me and have greatly enlightened my perspective on life...and death. It is an honor to help people heal from grief. Knowing what heals people is the key to this work. I am here to help.
Mindfulness-Based Therapy
Mindfulness changed my life personally and it is a pleasure to share mindfulness approaches with others. Mindfulness is the core of self regulation and a proven treatment to help with anxiety, anger and sadness. When we build the skill to manage our own feelings we are strong. We have the power and we have the choice. Mindfulness is life skills.
Solution Focused Brief Treatment
This therapy spends more time talking about proven solutions to challenges than talking about feelings. Talking about feelings is ok but the solution focused approach spends more time each session talking about solutions than feelings. This approach is typically more short term therapy than other therapies that require review of life events and processing feelings session after session. I did this type of therapy for 4 years primarily and it can be effective for many. If you have a need to talk about feelings and process events it is not the best approach for you. Solution focused therapy is best suited for people who are ready for change right away and are ready to try new proven strategies.
