I am a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist working with individuals, couples, and families. I work collaboratively with clients of all ages to develop a deeper understanding of themselves and of their problems. I provide a space to identify, analyze, and challenge any negative patterns that impact your life. I help clients to challenge limiting beliefs that may be holding them back from being their most authentic self.
In the first session, we will discuss what lead you to seek out therapy, but also much more. In order to develop a full picture and begin to identify patterns, we will also review life history and significant past events.
I take a collaborative stance, allowing the client to be the expert on their own life, and combine this with my expertise in mental health to create the best outcomes for each individual client. I create a positive environment to explore, understand, and create lasting change.
My clients are those who want to explore their thoughts, emotion, behavior, and relationships to create a deeper understanding of themselves.
I use Cognitive Behavior Therapy with my clients to help them identify, explore, and challenge negative thought patterns that contribute to emotional distress. Together, we work on developing practical coping strategies and reframe distorted thinking to promote healthier behaviors, thoughts, and relationships. .
In couples counseling, I aim to assist couples in improving communication, connection, and awareness. I help couples learn how to listen and respond in ways that are meaningful to each other and maintain honor and respect within the relationship.
In working with families, I help family members heal past relational injuries, improve communication, and increase empathy and understanding.
I have significant experience working with trauma, and I am trained in an incredibly effective type of therapy called Accelerated Resolution Therapy, which involves memory reprocessing and integration to eliminate emotional distress associated with traumatic memories and experiences. I have found great success with this type of therapy for many different groups with a wide range of trauma experiences, including sexual assault survivors, domestic violence survivors, veterans, first responders, and LGBT+ community, among others. This process can be used for recovery from a wide variety of traumatic experiences, including assault, violence, natural disasters, car accidents, military combat, relational abuse, infidelity, childhood trauma, and much more.

Sarah is both compassionate and challenging. She has done very well with validating my feelings but reframing my thought patterns to be more positive and helpful to my healing. I'm so happy I found her.

Just starting out with S. Richardson, seeking help is taking the first step. Asking for help is something I’ve never done well. Richardson is helping me talk things out, on upholding healthy boundaries and maintaining self worth.
