I’m John Tzanos, Ph.D., a licensed psychologist passionate about helping people make meaningful changes in their lives. I offer a practical and straightforward approach to therapy, where you can feel comfortable being yourself. My goal is to create a space where we can talk openly about what’s going on in your life and work together to find solutions that fit you as an individual. I focus on helping clients develop a deeper understanding of their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, while also providing tools and strategies that can be applied in daily life. I work well with people who are motivated to change and who enjoy learning new ways to view and approach the challenges they face. Whether you’re dealing with anxiety, depression, life transitions, or just feeling stuck, I’m here to support you through the process of finding clarity and direction. In our sessions, I strive to create a genuine connection, offering both guidance and flexibility as we explore what’s most important to you. My approach is collaborative, I’ll meet you where you are and help you move forward at your own pace. Therapy is a partnership, and I’m here to help you navigate life’s ups and downs in a way that aligns with your values and goals.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session, I focus on getting to know you, your experiences, challenges, and goals. It’s a relaxed, open conversation where I’ll ask about your background and what brings you to therapy. We’ll explore how I can best support you, and I’ll explain the therapeutic approach, so you know what to expect moving forward. The goal is for you to feel understood and comfortable, starting with a clear plan for how we’ll work together to achieve your goals.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

My greatest strengths lie in my ability to create a relaxed, practical space where clients feel heard and understood. With a background in treating a wide range of mental health issues, I’m skilled at adapting therapy to meet each client’s unique needs. My certifications in ADHD, anxiety, autism, trauma, and mental health and nutrition allow me to offer specialized care. Additionally, my experience and passion for personal growth make me uniquely attuned to diverse clients seeking both practical solutions and deeper philosophical exploration.

My treatment methods

Acceptance and commitment (ACT)

I use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help clients accept difficult emotions and thoughts rather than avoiding or battling them. Together, we focus on clarifying personal values and taking meaningful actions, even in the face of discomfort. My goal is to support clients in living more fully by increasing psychological flexibility, which can be especially helpful for issues like anxiety, depression, or OCD. Through mindfulness and acceptance techniques, clients learn to respond to life's challenges in ways that align with who they truly want to be.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients identify and challenge unhelpful thoughts and behaviors that contribute to emotional distress. By working together, we explore patterns of thinking that may be holding them back and develop practical strategies to shift those patterns. CBT is goal-oriented and focused on problem-solving, making it an effective approach for issues like anxiety, depression, and relationship challenges. Clients gain tools to manage their thoughts and behaviors in ways that promote long-term well-being.
