Hi! I am Jennifer Ayala, a bilingual (Spanish-English) clinical psychologist in the state of California. Have you experienced an adverse or traumatic event? Is it difficult to function and deal with these experiences? I provide a safe space for you to process these experiences so you can improve your day-to-day functioning. Together we will identify unhelpful thoughts and work to restructure them to true, more helpful thoughts. I will also help you discover and develop coping skills to support your everyday functioning so you can get back to living a happy and productive life. We will work together as a team to set realistic goals and plans to meet you treatment and personal goals. Whether you experienced these adverse and traumatic experiences yesterday or 20 years ago, or are experiencing every-day stressors, I am ready to meet you and start working towards a more satisfying lifestyle. We will explore your values in order for you to live a more meaningful life. While seeking therapy may be scary, you have already taken the first steps. Are you ready for change?
In the first few sessions we will discuss very specific things about your life, including your background, struggles and difficulties, relationships, work, health, and goals. We will discuss your needs and/or issues you’d like to address in treatment together. Together we will determine whether my treatment modality and style is appropriate based on your needs and goals. After some time in treatment, depending on your goals, you may experience better sleep, increased happiness and life satisfaction, feelings of empowerment, improved mental function and productivity, develop skills for coping with daily life challenges and stress, and develop better communication skills.
Most of my work has revolved around trauma and individuals who have experienced sexual abuse, physical abuse, emotional abuse, and domestic violence. I have primarily worked with adolescents and young adults, but have also done some work with older adults. I have provided services primarily to underrepresented populations and have provided services in Spanish. In addition to trauma, I provide services to individuals suffering from anxiety and depression symptoms.
I am certified in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and have used this treatment to support children and adolescents who have experienced traumatic and adverse experiences. I have also used interventions from this treatment modality to support adults who have experienced traumatic experiences.
Most of my training and work has involved Cognitive Behavioral interventions. I support individuals in understanding the relationship between thoughts, feeling and behaviors. I also support in exploring and developing adaptive coping skills, including cognitive coping, to support a decrease in symptoms.
