Katrina "Kat" Holmes
I'm a Licensed Mental Health Counselor who enjoys helping people work through the challenges life throws their way. I work with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship issues, and everyday stressors. Life can be messy, and sometimes it feels like we're just trying to keep all the plates spinning without dropping one.
Life can be messy, and therapy doesn't have to be intimidating. Let's work through the tough stuff, find some clarity, and maybe share a few laughs along the way.
I believe therapy should be a place where you can be yourself, speak freely, and even laugh occasionally. My approach is relaxed, genuine, and focused on helping you figure out what works best for you.
First session
Our first session is really about getting to know each other. I'll ask questions about what's bringing you to therapy, what you've been experiencing, and what you'd like to work on. There's no pressure to share your entire life story in the first hour! We'll go at a pace that feels comfortable for you. My hope is that you leave feeling heard, a little more at ease, and confident that we can work together toward your goals.
Strengths
I'm down-to-earth, straightforward, and believe a little humor can go a long way, even in therapy. I'll listen without judgment, but I'm also not afraid to gently challenge you when needed. Sometimes we all need someone to help us recognize when we're getting in our own way. I believe therapy should feel like a real conversation, not an interrogation. We'll work through the tough stuff, celebrate the wins, and hopefully share a few laughs along the way.
Ideal clients
My ideal client is someone who's tired of feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or like they're constantly getting in their own way. Maybe you're dealing with anxiety, depression, past trauma, relationship struggles, or just trying to figure out what comes next in life. You don't have to have everything figured out before starting therapy. In fact, that's kind of the point! I enjoy working with people who are open to looking at things differently, willing to be honest with themselves, and ready to make changes, even if they're not quite sure where to start.
Treatment methods
Motivational Interviewing
Sometimes we know something in our lives needs to change, but figuring out where to start is the hard part. I use motivational interviewing to help you work through those mixed feelings, figure out what's important to you, and identify what's getting in your way. I'm not here to tell you what to do or make decisions for you. I'll ask questions, offer different perspectives, and help you find your own reasons for making changes that feel right for you. After all, it's your life, and you're the one who has to live it!
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
I use DBT to help people better understand their emotions, manage stress, and handle difficult situations without making things harder on themselves. We work on practical skills like managing overwhelming feelings, improving relationships, setting boundaries, and learning how to respond rather than react. Let's face it, emotions don't always make life easy! My goal is to help you build skills you can actually use in everyday life, especially during those moments when everything seems to be happening at once.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use CBT to help people recognize how their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are connected. Sometimes our minds can be our own worst critics, and we don't even realize how much our thinking affects the way we feel and respond to situations. Together, we'll work on identifying unhelpful thought patterns, challenging negative beliefs, and finding healthier ways to handle life's challenges. The goal isn't to think positively all the time, but to learn how to look at things more realistically and stop letting our thoughts get the best of us.
Solution-Focused Brief Treatment
I use Solution-Focused Brief Therapy to help people focus on where they want to go rather than staying stuck on what's gone wrong. We'll look at what's already working in your life, build on your strengths, and identify small, realistic steps toward the changes you want to make. Sometimes we get so caught up in the problem that we forget we're capable of finding solutions. You don't have to have everything figured out. Sometimes one small change can make a bigger difference than you think!
Psychodynamic
I use psychodynamic therapy to help people better understand how their past experiences, relationships, and patterns of thinking may be affecting their lives today. Sometimes we find ourselves repeating the same behaviors or getting caught in the same situations without really understanding why. Together, we'll explore those patterns, connect the dots, and work toward a better understanding of yourself. The goal isn't to blame the past, but to recognize how it may be influencing the present so you can make different choices moving forward.
