Hello! My name is Gregory Longmore. I'm a Licensed Mental Health Counselor based in Brooklyn, NY. I provide Christian counseling, however I'm able to clinically assess and treat the most common mental health disorders. This means that it's not required that we talk about Christ, or that you are Christian to use my services. Currently I'm offering online services only, through a virtual clinic.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

On their first session, a client can expect a few minutes of getting to know each other and a brief exploration of their past experience with therapy. We'll then spend most of the session completing a comprehensive intake evaluation. The during the last few minutes we will discuss takeaways for the week and possibly a homework assignment to help them get started with their issues. In my belief, the client will leave the first session feeling confident.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I believe my genuineness to be my greatest strength, as I couple it with warmth. In this regard I can give my honest assessment on anything with the scope of our meeting, but with care to hurt the client. To contain emotions is foundational to therapy; therapy can do much more harm than good without this consideration. Likewise, to be disingenuous can also effect lasting damage. These need to be in place in order for therapy to work for the client.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I'm best positioned to serve clients who would like to see their issues resolved through a mix of structured interventions (including homework/worksheets), and a caring ear that is there to listen to the issues of the day. Within Christian counseling, I provide "Biopsychospiritual" Counseling; this means counseling is on 3 levels. We often attempt to 'think away' spiritual problems which, by its nature is impossible. Once we're better able to understand the difference between our psychology and our spirit, any earthbound (bio) issue is much more easily addressed (such as pornography or other perceived excess). In terms of secular counseling, I have a suite of CBT, DBT and other clinical mental health interventions. These interventions are suitable for any clinical mental health issue that is prone to interrupt what we call functioning: eating, sleeping, interpersonal issues and maintaining commitments. I also provide what I would call "Dynamic Interventions", which are situation specific. For example, we often have issues that are prevalent, but avoidable (like preparations for a particular life-change). Doing surprisingly little can have a huge impact on something that troubles us so much. I can help design a way to help alleviate the pressure, and then walk through steps which make a client able to approach any similar situation with the same technique. Of note, if you are experiencing more severe symptoms such as audio or visual hallucinations, recent suicidal thinking or violent/aggressive behavior, you may be better served at an in-person clinic. Also of note, I accept clients who are experiencing same-sex attraction or gender alignment issues, who would like them resolved to align with traditional Christian values.
