Hi, my name is Joy Gavigan, and I am Board Certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, based in the Lower Hudson Valley, NY. I received my MSN in 2020 from Hunter-Bellevue School of Nursing and have worked in healthcare for over 20 years. I provide evaluations, diagnoses and collaborative treatment plans. I believe in an integrated care approach which may include careful medication management, psychoeducation, lifestyle changes and counselling to help you get back on track. Due to state and federal laws I am unable to prescribe medications that are controlled substances unless I see you in person.
In our first session together, we will discuss any symptoms you are experiencing and examine the issues you are facing in your daily life. I will take the time to get to know you and together, we will create an individualized plan to address your needs.
I value collaboration and offer a safe, nonjudgemental, and supportive atmosphere. I strive to provide high quality care to support total health and wellness. With 20+ years of both education and hands on experience in the medical field, I feel confident that I am well versed across the mental health spectrum.
I enjoy working with adults who are experiencing low energy, difficulty focusing or are overwhelmed, restless or anxious. I have experience with anxiety, depression, and ADHD as well as other mental health issues. I also have experience working with older adults.
I help clients breakdown problems into separate parts, then analyze these areas and any negative effects they are having. We can then work to see what can be changed and apply strategies and skills that can be used to manage unhelpful thoughts and behaviors. This helps clients recognize and manage problem thoughts and behaviors and the negative impact these have on their lives.
