New to Grow
Growing up in a culturally-diverse, inner-city community, I experienced challenges with my multifaceted identity as a woman of color in a conservative-centric Christian household. Feeling like I didn’t belong, I doubted my potential and struggled with low self-esteem throughout my early years. Fitting in socially was challenging and as I sought support to address my concerns, connecting and trusting a therapist was difficult, as I longed to have someone understand and empathize with my background. In my journey of self-acceptance, I realized that it is my diversity and faith that make me strong and resilient. I learned to trust in myself and my Christianity by embracing my culture, language, ethnicity, and spirituality. I was very fortunate to find therapeutic support that helped empower me to understand that my heritage, traditions, and faith were important aspects of my identity. Through this experience, I became passionate about helping others find support and empowerment.
In our initial meeting, I will conduct a consultation to assess our therapeutic fit. We will discuss what you are looking for in a therapist as well as my clinical approaches to address your specific needs and goals. In the initial session, we will complete a biopsychosocial assessment to gain an understanding of your background, to explore your current concerns, and to discover what brings you to therapy at this time in your life. As we begin our therapeutic relationship, we will address what you want to achieve from therapy. This will consist of developing skills and interventions followed by monitoring your progress in weekly sessions. If you have a beloved animal serving as your emotional support, we can also incorporate them into our therapy sessions using animal-assisted interventions. My forte is working with persons of diverse cultures and communities where I incorporate heritage, language, ethnicity, and spiritual beliefs to help them find balance in their lives.
My approach to therapy is collaborative, holistic, and individualized. I focus on understanding you within the full context of your emotional, psychological, relational, and cultural experiences, rather than reducing your story to symptoms alone. Together, we identify patterns that may be keeping you stuck—whether in your thoughts, relationships, or ways of coping—and begin to shift them in ways that feel both practical and meaningful. I use a combination of evidence-based techniques and therapeutic insight to support your growth. This includes helping you build effective coping skills, improve emotional regulation, and process both past and present experiences that continue to impact your well-being. I also support clients in strengthening boundaries, navigating complex relationships, and reconnecting with a clearer sense of self. At the core of my work is creating a safe, nonjudgmental space where you feel heard, respected, and understood. Therapy with me is an active, collaborative process—one that empowers you to develop insight, build resilience, and make meaningful, lasting changes that align with who you are and how you want to live.
Other specialties
I identify as
Psychoanalytic
I use psychoanalysis in therapy sessions to help people understand how unconscious thoughts, emotions, early relationships, and internal conflicts shape their current behaviors, symptoms, and relationships. Rather than focusing only on symptom reduction, psychoanalytic therapy explores the deeper emotional meanings behind a person’s experiences.
Integrative
I use an integrative treatment approach in therapy to combine techniques and theories from multiple therapeutic models to meet the specific needs of the client rather than relying on a single method. I tailor the treatment based on the person’s symptoms, personality, culture, developmental history, strengths, goals, and stage of change. Instead of asking, “Which therapy model is best?” integrative therapy asks, “What combination of approaches will best help this individual?” Therapy modalities include: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Attachment Theory, Trauma-Informed Care, Humanistic Psychology, and Mindfulness and somatic approaches.
