Alba Ureña

LMHC (she/her)13 years of experience

I bring over 13 years of experience as a bilingual school counselor, along with experience in family therapy and private practice. With advanced training in Couples and Family Therapy, I take a collaborative, strength-based, culturally responsive, and trauma-informed approach to helping individuals, couples, and families navigate relationship challenges, communication difficulties, anxiety, family conflict, parenting concerns, and life transitions. I provide therapy in both English and Spanish and welcome clients from diverse backgrounds. My goal is to create a supportive space where clients feel heard and understood while working together to build on their strengths and create meaningful change.

First session

In your first session, you can expect a welcoming and supportive space to share what brings you to therapy and what you hope to work on. We’ll talk about your current concerns, your experiences, and your goals for therapy, while beginning to identify patterns or challenges that may be affecting you or your relationships. I’ll also explain how I approach therapy and work with you to develop a plan that fits your needs. You don’t need to have everything figured out before your first session—we’ll take it one step at a time.

Strengths

I bring a collaborative, compassionate, and culturally responsive approach to my sessions. With over 13 years of experience as a bilingual school counselor and experience working with individuals, couples, and families, I understand that every client and family has their own unique experiences and strengths. I take the time to listen and understand my clients’ perspectives while helping them identify patterns, improve communication, and develop practical strategies for change. I provide therapy in both English and Spanish and strive to create a safe, welcoming space where clients feel heard, respected, and supported throughout their therapeutic journey.

Ideal clients

My ideal clients are individuals, couples, and families who are ready to better understand themselves and their relationships and are open to making positive changes. They may be experiencing communication difficulties, anxiety, family conflict, parenting concerns, relationship challenges, or major life transitions. I especially enjoy working with clients who want to develop healthier communication, strengthen their relationships, and build on the strengths they already have. Whether they are just beginning therapy or have tried therapy before, I meet clients where they are and work collaboratively with them toward their goals.

Treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients understand the connection between their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Together, we identify patterns of thinking that may be contributing to stress, anxiety, relationship difficulties, or other challenges. I help clients challenge unhelpful thoughts, develop healthier ways of thinking, and practice practical coping strategies they can use in their everyday lives. My goal is to help clients gain greater self-awareness, build confidence, and feel more empowered to make meaningful changes.
