The first session is about getting to know each other. I create a calm, welcoming space where you can feel safe to talk. What We Do: We start going over the situations that are bringing you to therapy and what your goals are. Personal information will be discussed, like your background, current challenges, and any past therapy. I will take some time to explain how therapy works, including confidentiality and what to expect moving forward. There’s no pressure to share everything right away. It’s okay to take your time. My job is to listen, support, and help you feel comfortable.
I practice active listening, so my clients always feel heard and validated. Validations come from implementing promoting kindness and compassion in every session. Trustworthiness is another quality that is important to me as a counselor, so clients can feel safe sharing personal experiences. I am a problem solver and use a flexible mindset to understand every situation. Last but not least I pride myself in being supportive, by encouraging growth and celebrate progress/success.
