LCMHC, 31 years of experience
New to Grow
I am enthusiastic about the work I do and the people I work with. I have worked in the behavioral health field for thirty years. I graduated with both my master's degree in agency counseling and bachelor's degree in psychology from Appalachian State University located in Boone, NC. I am a licensed clinical mental health counselor (LCMHC) and a licensed clinical addiction specialist (LCAS) with a wealth of experience working with adults who are challenged by mental health symptoms and substance misuse. I also have expertise in working with women's specific issues, trauma related challenges and OCD. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, family time and dancing.
The first session is important as it's the start of our therapeutic relationship. We will start by me introducing myself and answering any questions you may have of my training and education. I will gather your personal history to gain an understanding of your needs and expectations. We will work together to develop a treatment approach based on your stated goals to help you achieve your desired outcome.
I have exceptional listening skills and provide undivided attention to each person under my care. I have unconditional positive regard for those I work with which is reflected through my empathy and understanding of the various life challenges.
I am a well-versed therapist who works well with a variety of adult clients. I work exceptionally well with women's issues such as pregnancy and post-partum behavioral health concerns; relationship concerns and life transition challenges such as starting a new job, getting married, perimenopause/menopause, etc. I also specialized in the treatment of depression, anxiety and panic disorders.
I have used CBT in a variety of ways with very good results. I use CBT exposure therapy when treating anxiety disorders along with cognitive restructuring to address negativity thoughts and to treat depression.
