Hilary Gilway
I am a licensed clinical professional counselor (LCPC) with 7 years of experience in private practice. Prior to joining Grow, I've worked for three private group practices. I live in the Chicagoland area, and I'm the mom of 2 elementary aged children.
I have 15 years of counseling experience and see clients as whole people with no bad parts.
I love spending time outside, with my family and enjoy volunteering and doing service activities in my community.
First session
During the first intake session, we will chit chat briefly about how your day or week has been. Then we will talk about what brought you to therapy at this time. We will identify what problems you feel like you need help with and identify your goals for therapy. We will review any history you may have had with therapy in the past. I will ask you some questions that could help me better understand your background and current needs for therapy. We will check out at the end of the session and decide if this feels like a good fit to you and me. If so, we will set-up a second appointment.
Strengths
I have 15 years of counseling experience and see clients as whole people with no bad parts. I am extremely empathetic and want to take the time to get to know you in order to create a safe and comfortable environment for us to work together.
Ideal clients
My ideal clients are women 18 years and older. I am experienced in supporting medium to high functioning clients with depression, anxiety, grief and loss, relationship and career and life transition concerns and anxiety. I also support new moms going through the postpartum period or with toddlers at home. Finally, I also support young adult women in their late 20's, clients in mid-life (late 30s-early 50s) with young or adult children or aging parents.
Treatment methods
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT)
I completed a weeklong training in EFT and an online training in Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT). I use this approach with clients to access deeper emotions, work towards regulating those emotions and explore negative interaction patterns. This approach can help clients better understand themselves, increase their sense of self and promote resilience.
Acceptance and commitment (ACT)
I have completed an online training and a training manual for this method and use consultation. I use different interventions to help clients be more present, work towards living a meaningful life based on their values. I support clients in being open to accepting and working through uncomfortable emotions and assist client with raising awareness of their current behaviors in order to focus on how they want to show up in the present.
Internal Family Systems (IFS)
I am currently reviewing an Online Circle Training on this method and have received consultation. I use this method to help clients create more internal peace and self-acceptance by exploring, understanding and healing their "inner parts" to find new empowering roles and to access their "Self" while promoting self-compassion. Depending on the client's comfort level, I use experiential parts of this method to help clients engage with inner parts to promote healing and self-awareness and acceptance.
Person-centered (Rogerian)
I use this approach to promote personal growth, self-understanding and to allow client to explore their unique potential by creating a non-judgmental, empathic environment. I focus on being authentic to promote awareness and self-acceptance and to reduce distress.
