Julie Hackett

LMHC (she/they)4 years of experience

I pride myself on taking a sensitive, thoughtful, and passionate approach with every case I work with. I am excited to work with individuals, couples, families, and non-traditional intimate and domestic partnerships or collections of all identities and backgrounds. I am comfortable working with a myriad of presenting concerns including trauma, anxiety, depression, disordered eating and dysmorphia, gender identity and dysphoria, sexual concerns, intimacy concerns, psychedelic integration, kink dynamics, etc. As a non-binary, queer therapist, I am an ally to any and all identities and professions including members of the LGBTQIA+ communities, sex workers, BIPOC clients, and marginalized and underserved populations.

Strengths

I identify with the idea of "life long learning". I tell everyone I work with that I throw the old expert model out the window - you are the experts of your lives and stories, I will simply be using my wisdom and experience to guide us together. I am constantly learning from and with those I work with. I also place a deep importance on staying culturally competent and up-to-date with interventions and modalities, particularly for the communities I am a part of and those I serve.

Ideal clients

Most important to me is the energy a client comes to therapy with. I understand how vulnerable and challenging therapy can feel, and so all that I ask is that clients come with an open mind and willingness to try together. While I work with all identities and presentations, some areas of focus/special interests are: LGBTQIA+ community, queerness and gender journeys, neurodivergence, somatic therapeutic techniques, embodiment and movement, ethical non-monogamy and polyamory, intimacy and sex, intimate partner dynamics and couples concerns, etc.

Origin story

I have always felt a calling towards healing, from studying movement through dance and yoga to exploring interpersonal nuances and joys to finding the power of mindfulness and compassion. Working with people through their wellness journeys has always felt like home, and gives me such an immense sense of meaning and intention that I hope to share with and inspire in all individuals I work with.

Treatment methods

Trauma-Informed Care

First and foremost, I always take a trauma-informed approach to all of my work.

Somatic

Somatic and embodiment work is something I love to offer to my clients as another way of approaching trauma, safety, meaning-making, etc. Not required, but an option if interesting.

Gender-affirming therapy

As a non-binary provider, it is critical to me that the queer community has access to competent, affirming care.

Person-centered (Rogerian)

I take a humanistic approach in the sense that I have unconditional, positive regard for each of my clients. I understand that everyone has individual needs and, therefore, need individualized care.

Internal Family Systems (IFS)

IFS and parts work, similar to somatic work, is a modality that I think can offer a different way to process and approach change. This is not required, but an available option if interesting.
