Jalae Alvarez
Hi, I’m Jalae! I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, and I believe you don’t have to have life all figured out to take the first step toward healing. Life can be messy, overwhelming, and sometimes just plain hard. Whether you’re navigating anxiety, grief, relationship struggles, past hurts, or simply feeling stuck in a season of life, you deserve a space where you can show up exactly as you are. My approach to therapy is warm, down-to-earth, and rooted in genuine connection. I’m not the kind of therapist who expects you to sit across from me and have all the right words. Some days we might laugh, other days we might work through some really difficult emotions, and that’s okay. I want our sessions to feel like a real conversation where you feel comfortable being yourself, while also doing the meaningful work that leads to growth and healing.
My goal is to create a space where you feel genuinely heard, supported, and empowered to grow, while working together to address the deeper factors impacting your overall well-being.
I believe we are so much more than our struggles or a diagnosis. Our emotional health, physical well-being, relationships, life experiences, and spiritual beliefs all play a role in who we are. That’s why I take a holistic approach to therapy, combining evidence-based clinical practices with faith-based support when desired. My Christian faith is an important part of who I am, and I love helping clients explore how their faith can be a source of strength, hope, and healing. At the same time, I welcome individuals from all walks of life and respect each person’s unique beliefs and experiences. Above all, I want you to know that you don’t have to walk through life’s challenges alone. Healing isn’t always easy or straightforward, but there is hope, and I’d be honored to walk alongside you as you take those next steps.
First session
First and foremost, I want you to feel comfortable, welcomed, and genuinely heard. Starting therapy can feel intimidating, especially if you’ve never been before or have had an experience where you didn’t feel understood. My goal is to make that first conversation feel as natural and comfortable as possible. Our first session is really about getting to know you beyond the reason you scheduled an appointment. We’ll talk about what’s been going on, what brought you to therapy, and what you’re hoping might change. I’ll also ask about different areas of your life because I believe understanding the whole person is important to meaningful healing. There’s no pressure to share everything at once, and you certainly don’t need to have all the answers. We’ll move at a pace that feels comfortable for you. If incorporating faith is important to you, we can also talk about what that might look like in our work together. My hope is that you leave our first session feeling a little lighter, knowing you’ve been heard without judgment, and feeling encouraged that we have a starting point and a direction to move forward together.
Strengths
One of my greatest strengths is that I see people as more than just their struggles or a diagnosis. I believe that our physical health, emotional well-being, relationships, life experiences, and spiritual beliefs are all connected. Because of this, I approach therapy through a biological, psychological, social, and spiritual lens, focusing on the whole person rather than just the symptoms. My approach is warm, conversational, and grounded in compassion, but I’m also not afraid to gently challenge you when needed. I combine evidence-based clinical practices with faith-based principles when desired, recognizing that healing looks different for everyone. My goal is to create a space where you feel genuinely heard, supported, and empowered to grow, while working together to address the deeper factors impacting your overall well-being.
Ideal clients
My ideal client is someone who may be feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or simply tired of carrying everything on their own. Maybe you’re navigating anxiety, depression, grief, relationship challenges, past trauma, or a season of life that looks nothing like you expected. You might be the person everyone else leans on, yet you’re struggling to find space to care for yourself. I especially enjoy working with individuals who are open to exploring not just what they’re experiencing, but what’s underneath it. You don’t have to know exactly what you need or even where to begin. Just being willing to show up is a great first step. I also have a heart for those who want to incorporate their Christian faith into the healing process, especially when they’re struggling to make sense of difficult circumstances or reconnect with their sense of purpose. Whether faith is central to your life or something you’re still figuring out, my goal is to meet you where you are. Ultimately, I enjoy working with people who want to better understand themselves, develop healthier ways of coping, strengthen their relationships, and find a renewed sense of hope and direction.
Treatment methods
Acceptance and commitment (ACT)
Sometimes life brings challenges, emotions, and circumstances that we simply can’t control. Through Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), I help clients learn how to make room for difficult thoughts and feelings without allowing them to dictate their lives. Together, we’ll explore what truly matters to you, identify the values that guide your decisions, and work toward living a life that feels more meaningful and fulfilling. I especially appreciate how ACT can complement faith-based counseling by helping clients navigate uncertainty, practice acceptance, and move forward with purpose, even when life doesn’t look the way they hoped.
Somatic
I believe our minds and bodies are deeply connected, and sometimes the stress and emotions we carry show up physically before we even recognize what’s happening. In our sessions, we’ll explore how your body responds to stress, anxiety, and difficult experiences. I may incorporate grounding exercises, breathing techniques, and mindfulness to help you feel more present and better manage overwhelming emotions. My goal is to help you understand that healing involves caring for your whole self, not just your thoughts and feelings.
Trauma-Informed Care
I recognize that our past experiences can shape how we see ourselves, connect with others, and respond to the world around us. My approach is rooted in creating a safe, supportive space where you feel heard, respected, and never pressured to share more than you’re ready for. We’ll work together to understand how past experiences may be affecting your life today, while building healthy coping skills and restoring a sense of safety and control. I believe healing happens through trust, connection, and moving at a pace that feels right for you. When meaningful to you, we can also explore how faith can be a source of strength and hope throughout that process.
