Are you often overwhelmed and feel like you're just barely holding it together? Do you feel like no one really understands just how challenging things are and how hard you're trying? I provide a safe, non-judgmental space where we can sort through the tangle of stressful life events, relationships, emotions, beliefs, and societal issues that make daily life feel overwhelming and exhausting. Together, we can find ways to help you cope, create change, and develop a sense of self-worth and self-compassion. Since obtaining my Master of Social Work degree from Loyola University Chicago, I have served diverse populations including teens, adults, and older adults living with ADHD, depression, chronic pain and illness, chronic and disabling mental health issues, low-self-image, anxiety, infertility, pregnancy/post-partum stressors, and relationship issues. I also have experience and enjoy working with Autistic individuals, LGBTQ+ folx, and immigrants.
Therapy is not a one-size-fits-all endeavor, so we will begin by building a safe and supportive therapeutic relationship based on respect and compassion. Along the way, we will identify what YOU want to get out of therapy, your strengths, and the barriers that are getting in the way. I honor that you are the real expert on yourself and your life, and my role is to support, encourage, and empower you. This is often done by working on "soft skills" that are not directly taught in school but should be: processing emotions, setting and holding boundaries, developing healthy relationships and communication patterns, reducing negative self-talk, building a positive relationship with yourself, and adjusting your coping strategies and defense mechanisms from harmful to helpful ones.
While I integrate several evidence-based therapeutic models, my approach begins by building a therapeutic relationship based on compassion and respect. I work to help my clients find - and learn to trust - their own inner wisdom and resilience, and I emphasize self-compassion as an integral part of the therapeutic process.
I strive to make everyone - of any body shape/size, sexuality, gender, race, religion, or disability - comfortable in the therapy room (and in their own skins). I am neurodiversity and LGBTQ+ affirming. Finally, my therapy office was created with sensory sensitivities in mind. I have a large office with a variety of seating options for all bodies including floor seating options. I do not use strong or scented chemicals in my office, and I'm located in a quiet building. My decor is calming, but not boring or understimulating. I also have adjustable lighting, so we can brighten or dim the lighting just for you.
