Hello! I am a Licensed Professional Counselor based in Texas. I have been practicing for over 25 years in the private practice setting. I try to provide practical solutions to clients' issues and concerns, so they can see and feel the results of their efforts. I have a straight forward approach in order to effectively identify the issues, and the underlining contributing factors, create "real-world" strategies and apply these strategies to the issues to effect meaningful change. I offer direct advice and recommendations which can be applied to their lives. So I do not sit passively, nodding my head, merely listening to the issues at hand. I like the idea of "rolling up" our sleeves to find out the best solution(s) to clients' concerns, worries or issues.
In the initial session we will discuss the primary reason(s) for seeking treatment, explore the history of these issues along with a timeline of the client's "story". Also, an assessment of symptoms will performed in order to understand the clinical nature and intensity of the their distress. We then begin to identify patterns of personality, thoughts and behaviors. I identify which patterns are healthy and functional and which patterns should be the focus of change. We then formulate a plan to address concerns and look to develop strategies for short-term relief and construct long-term effective changes.
As I have developed a general approach to working with clients over the past 25 years, I maintain the strategy to customize each plan according to the client(s) rather than customization according to the issue(s). I attempt to create an informal, relaxed environment in which the client and I collaborate together to find solutions to their concerns, apply these strategies and then make adjustments where needed to best address their needs. I like to "boil" down the, often times convoluted issues, to its' basic elements and focus on the fundamental aspects to bring about meaningful change.
I like working with clients who have a high motivation for change. I enjoy helping clients become their own therapist, who gain understanding of themselves and change problematic patterns to improve their overall quality of life. These clients are motivated to become a better version of themselves and improve their lives with an understanding that perfection is not the goal but neither is complacency.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I utilize CBT in a "loose" form, meaning a less structured, informal counseling environment. I have had over 25 years of experience using this method with a wide range of clinical issues.
