LPC, 26 years of experience
Hello! My name is Kathy Kinskey. I have a masters degree in marriage and family counseling & I am greatly honored to be a seasoned licensed professional counselor who has worked with individuals, families and children for over 26 years! My experience and commitment to training continue help me hone and update my specialization in attachment and trauma work so as you and I collaborate, we have current tools to help you thrive! Attachment and trauma work are important areas for all of us to address if we want to live and love fully. Taking a quiz and identifying your attachment style is the first step to putting the puzzle pieces together about how your relationship style may be influencing your life - how and who you choose as a life partner, how you relate to your children, yourself, your work, money and to all of life! I also specialize in preparation for birth and adoption, bonding, post partum/ post-adoption adjustment and depression and anxiety - all areas where attachment work can transform your life and your relationships. Know that attachment style work can be a fascinating and fun process of discovery! And know, too, you have support here in using these great tools to meet your goals. Lastly, evidence-based tools for trauma & attachment work can also help you remove entrepreneurial & career blocks & find your way through anxiety and loss. You can break through old patterns...patterns that are actually just signals that you need a safe & supportive environment along with effective tools so you can develop & use emotional literacy as essential life guidance. No one taught us this stuff; it's not your fault you don't have this needed information and tools. The good news though is these things are here for us now!
Clients can expect a warm interaction where my goal is to help you feel safe and get your questions answered, including about how therapy works. Through clarifying your therapy goals and my areas of expertise, we'll see if it makes sense for us to move forward together or if a referral to a therapist with different specialties would better meet your needs and goals. The main goal with a first call is to make sure you are set up for success and connected to the right therapist.
I am passionate about attachment work as it seems to me to be the key to all effective therapy and growth work. It influences everything!!! From who we choose to have in our lives, to birth and bonding, to how we relate to challenges and more. This passion comes through in my work. I love empowering people to fully use their strengths as a bridge to reach their goals. My strengths also lie in working with individuals who highly value personal growth, are on a journey to discover or pursue their purpose and where they can serve most greatly, and who are invested in having more fulfilling relationships. If you're someone who is guided by a desire to grow, even in the midst of being very human, we will likely collaborate well together to help you reach your goals.
You are working with the following areas of growth and challenge: parenting, birth, bonding and adoption; entrepreneurship / leadership; women's issues; clarifying values & identity for aligned decision-making in career, relationships, loss, building and strengthening solid relationship skills. You want to clear recurring trauma symptoms and behaviors of: amped up or shut down responses, sleep issues, relationship stress, uninvited or looping stress-thoughts & images, avoidance behaviors, emotional numbing, hyper-vigilance. You want to replace control and avoidance dynamics in relationships and career with agreements, collaboration, empowerment and other trust and strengths-building skills.
I have extensive experience in neuroscience backed practices and therapies that help people to not only heal their relationship stumbling blocks but to experience their relationships as places of thriving, inspiration and strength for the other areas of their lives.
Internal Family Systems is quite powerful in calming the self-critic, as well as other self-sabotaging behaviors that get in the way of our goals in relationships, work, parenting and life. People tend to love using it with other tools we use that make inner work very rewarding.
A Mindfulness-Based focus is easily incorporated into therapy as we bring in somatic (body) awareness as an essential part of your whole intelligence system- for understanding yourself, symptoms and those of your children. Mindfulness has a great track record in calming anxiety, enhancing decision-making, relationships, learning and performance.
I have extensive training in solution-focused therapy. It is based on your strengths and a belief that your best solutions are those that build on successes you are already having in your life, no matter how small. It is a great tool for life, relationships, career and for parenting!
I specialize in trauma work and use a variety of modalities to clear trauma symptoms and to replace trauma-based negative beliefs and triggers withh automatically occuring empowering beliefs about self, relationship and life.

Kathy was incredibly warm and made me feel safe opening up from the start. She's very intelligent and I appreciated how she explained the science behind some of my thoughts and behaviors. I look forward to working with her and continuing on my personal growth journey.
