New to Grow
Hi, I’m Catherine Stewart, LCSW. I specialize in supporting adults navigating trauma, anxiety, ADHD, and burnout. My approach is compassionate and collaborative, blending evidence-based therapies like CBT, DBT, EMDR, and trauma-informed care with mind-body practices to help clients feel grounded and empowered. I believe healing happens when we create a safe, nonjudgmental space where you can explore your story, build coping tools, and move toward the life you want to live.
In our first session, you can expect a welcoming, nonjudgmental space where we’ll focus on getting to know you and what brings you to therapy. I’ll ask about your goals, your history, and what feels most important to you right now, while moving at a pace that feels safe and comfortable. Together, we’ll begin building a plan for therapy that fits your needs, and I’ll share some practical tools you can start using right away. My goal is for you to leave the first session feeling heard, supported, and hopeful about the path ahead.
What stands out about my approach is the balance of evidence-based therapy and holistic mind-body healing. I blend methods like CBT, DBT, and EMDR with grounding, mindfulness, and somatic practices, helping clients not only understand their struggles but also feel real change in their daily lives. My clients often share that they feel deeply seen, supported, and empowered to create boundaries, manage emotions, and move forward with greater resilience and self-compassion.
I am best positioned to support adults who have experienced trauma and are looking for a safe, compassionate space to heal. Many of my clients feel weighed down by anxiety, depression, or self-criticism and want to break free from patterns that keep them stuck. My approach is holistic, blending mind and body practices with evidence-based therapies to help clients reconnect with themselves, regulate their emotions, and build resilience. Together, we work toward healing that honors the whole person—mind, body, and spirit.
I use CBT to help clients recognize and shift unhelpful thought patterns that contribute to anxiety, depression, and trauma-related symptoms. In my sessions, I integrate practical tools like thought records, behavioral activation, and reframing to help clients see the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. CBT allows me to collaborate with clients on building skills they can use between sessions, creating lasting change.
My practice is rooted in trauma-informed care, meaning I approach each client with an understanding of the impact of trauma on the brain, body, and relationships. I prioritize safety, collaboration, and empowerment in session, and I help clients develop self-regulation skills before processing deeper experiences. Whether using grounding exercises, psychoeducation, or parts work, I aim to create a space where clients feel safe to explore at their own pace.
I incorporate DBT skills such as mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness into my work with clients who struggle with intense emotions, relational conflict, or self-criticism. These skills help clients stay grounded in the present, manage overwhelming emotions, and set healthy boundaries. I often weave DBT skills into sessions through role-play, coaching, and practical exercises so clients can apply them in real-life situations.
I use EMDR to support clients in processing traumatic memories and reducing distress associated with past experiences. In my practice, I start by building resources for stabilization and then use bilateral stimulation to help clients reprocess memories in a way that is less overwhelming. EMDR allows clients to move toward integration and healing while also honoring their natural resilience and strengths.
I often integrate mind-body approaches such as guided grounding, breathwork, and body scans to help clients reconnect with their physical selves and release stored stress or trauma. Many of my clients benefit from learning how to notice body cues and use somatic strategies to regulate emotions, especially when words alone are not enough. By combining mindfulness with somatic awareness, I help clients build greater resilience and self-compassion.
