Hello! I am a psychologist licensed in California and North Carolina. I received my doctorate degree in 2004 from Alliant International University's California School of Professional Psychology. I provide individual therapy using Telehealth to adults of all ages. Trained in various therapeutic approaches, I tailor treatment to her clients' unique concerns, symptoms, and goals. I have a background in psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral and dialectical behavioral therapies. I also use mindfulness- and self-compassion-based interventions.
The first session will help me better understand what you would like to address in therapy. The initial meeting is also an opportunity for us to see if I am the best person to help you. In addition to discussing the concerns bringing you to therapy, I will ask questions about your history and background. If we decide to start working together, the last part of the session will be spent discussing initial goals and a treatment plan.
I am an integrative therapist, meaning that I draw on a variety of therapeutic approaches to address the concerns and needs of my clients. My style is warm, empathic and interactive. Clients have remarked that they feel comfortable sharing difficult material in session because of my non-judgmental, supportive stance.
I tend to work best with clients who, in addition to wanting to feel better, are interested in personal growth and deeper change. I have extensive experience treating clients with depression, anxiety and trauma. My clients are diverse in terms of racial and cultural background, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, and socio-economic status. I
Psychodynamic therapy helps clients explore inner conflicts and longstanding patterns of feeling, thinking and behaving that were useful at one time but may no longer be beneficial. Oftentimes, inner struggles date back to unresolved childhood issues, and exploring one's history can help shed light on current problems and allow a shift toward healthier patterns of being.
CBT helps clients question the accuracy of the thinking patterns that can contribute to emotional distress such low self-esteem, shame, anxiety or depression, and lead to maladaptive behaviors. With the help of CBT, clients learn to identify and challenge inaccurate, unhelpful thoughts and make behavioral changes to improve mood and well-being.
In my work with clients, I draw on a variety of psychological theories, approaches and techniques to facilitate growth and healing. My approach is trauma-informed. Treatment is tailored to each individual's unique concerns and needs.
Mind-body techniques such as Tara Brach's RAIN, can help clients get below their narratives and tune into themselves on a different, more somatically-based way, helping to bring about emotional shifts.
