My name is Dr. Jennifer Ambriz and I am an Associate Psychologist, LMHC licensed in Washington state. Thank you for considering working with me! My counseling style reflects client-centered, empathic, strength based, and non-judgmental approaches to foster a therapeutic alliance. My theoretical orientation is Eclectic and I adapt counseling techniques to each unique individual client. The foundation of my clinical skills include Mindfulness based interventions, Holistic approaches, Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and Havening Techniques.
During the first appointment, we will complete an Intake Assessment, which includes gathering more information about your background and intentions for seeking therapy at this time. Also, assessment of depressed mood, anxiety, and trauma are are included. Additionally, we will briefly discuss some helpful resources and next steps after the first appointment.
I have 20 years of counseling experience and have worked in a variety of settings including six years in a medical clinic setting, seven years in a college/university, seven years in community mental health, and six years conducting psychological evaluations. Specifically, I conducted psychological evaluations for Autism spectrum, ADHD/ADD, Learning Disorders, Washington state disability, etc. Additionally, I have four years’ experience providing Equine Assisted Therapy services in an Indigenous behavioral health clinic setting.
My counseling approach adheres to a Holistic approach for Psychotherapy, which focuses on enhancing the balance of physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being. The intention of a Holistic psychotherapy approach strives to create long-term healing and wellness by addressing the root cause of illness. The main clinical areas I specialize in include: Anxiety, Self-Esteem, Grief/Loss, Life Transitions, Spirituality, and Codependency.
Mindfulness-based interventions supports strengthening your ability to slow down, increase awareness of your thought and emotional patterns/habits without judgment, and maintain staying present in the moment. By practicing Mindfulness techniques, you can respond to stress more calmly and feel more in control of your emotions.
The Four Core Skills Clients learn include the following areas: Mindfulness: Focusing on the present moment and observing your thoughts and feelings without judgment. Distress Tolerance: Managing and surviving intense emotional pain or crisis moments without making things worse. Emotion Regulation: Identifying, naming, and changing unwanted or overwhelming emotions. Interpersonal Effectiveness: Communicating clearly, setting boundaries, and keeping self-respect in relationships. (Harvard Health Publishing)
