Hi there! My name is Angelique. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Licensed Clinical Addictions Counselor, working with clients virtually in the State of New Jersey and Pennsylvania. More importantly, I am a fiercely dedicated advocate for your healing. My formal training and background in substance use treatment spaces have led to an expertise of with individuals in recovery from alcohol or substance use, and addictive behaviors (gambling, shopping, relationships, etc). I also specialize in working with family members or loved ones of people with a mental health or substance use disorder, because help and healing should be accessible and prioritized for all; especially for someone feeling all the pressure to hold it together for someone else!

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

First sessions are so very important. I recognize its not easy to start new, or start over, with a provider. I want to alleviate any stress or discomfort that comes with initiating this process. To begin our work together, I will inquire what brings you to therapy, and what goals you would like to work towards. If you've been in therapy previously, we will discuss the things that have worked for you in this setting, while taking note of the approaches that may not have been as productive. Then, we will set treatment plan goals, create a personalized meeting schedule, and discuss your progress within each session. We will go at your pace!

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

As your therapist, I will inquire what brings you to therapy and what goals you would like to work towards. I ask real questions, and I genuinely care about where you’re headed. Our work together will feel like conversations with someone who sees you, takes you seriously, and does right by you. I am also a big believer in assigning homework in between sessions, and sending over educational resources, as a way to provide supplemental care. We will practice the hard things in here, so you can be successful out there!

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

If you’ve been holding it together for everyone else — you’re in the right place. I work with people who are smart, self-aware, and tired. Tired of feeling the pressure to have it all figured out. Tired of coping in all the wrong ways. My clients come in navigating problems like: anxiety and unhealthy behaviors due to stress, family dynamics that are hard to name but impossible to ignore, and navigating early periods of recovery from substance use. I work well with clients who enjoy a balance of emotion-focused processing within their sessions, in addition to psychoeducational tools, and evidenced-based practices!

My treatment methods

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

In our work together, I will draw from the four core principles associated with Dialectical Behavioral Therapy: mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. This is a highly effective tool for individuals navigating unhealthy coping behaviors, such as addiction.

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy as an effective tool, when discussing the relationship between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. This is an important staple of psychotherapy, and is paired well with homework assignments.

Gottman method

Used within couples sessions, my work aligns with this treatment method, as a way to overcome resentment and negative experiences within the couple relationship, and instead, regain a sense of friendship, connection, and positive feelings about the relationship.

Trauma Informed Care

In our work together, trauma-informed care takes priority. If you have a history of present or past trauma, we will use trauma-informed language, approaches, and treatment interventions to reduce symptoms, and work towards an improved state of wellbeing.

Culturally Sensitive Therapy

In our work together, all therapy will be practiced through a culturally sensitive, competent, lens.
