Clayton Frederick
I am a board‐certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner dedicated to providing thoughtful, evidence‐based care for individuals across the lifespan. My practice centers on building a therapeutic alliance with each of my clients, understanding each person’s story, and creating treatment plans that honor their goals, strengths, and lived experiences. I integrate medication management with supportive psychotherapy, trauma‐informed care, and a holistic perspective that considers the mind–body connection. My mission is to help patients feel seen, supported, and empowered as they navigate their mental health journey.
First session
Your first session with me is a chance for us to understand what brought you in and what you’re hoping will feel different. We’ll talk about the concerns that matter most to you right now, and then gently step back to look at the bigger picture—your life experiences, the supports you’ve had, and the challenges that may still be shaping your mental health. From there, we’ll begin outlining a plan of care together, which may include medication when it’s appropriate and helpful. I also draw from my five holistic pillars—nutrition, exercise, sleep, community, and enrichment—to understand what strengthens you and where you may need support. You won’t need to share every detail; I’m simply getting a sense of your story so we can start building a path toward healing.
Strengths
I center my work around five holistic pillars—nutrition, exercise, sleep, community, and enrichment—because I believe healing happens when we care for the whole person, not just their symptoms. These pillars help me get to know who my clients are, what supports them, and what gets in the way of their well‐being. By exploring their social, physical, and emotional needs through this lens, I’m able to partner with them for an individualized plan of care.
Ideal clients
I work well with individuals who feel aimless, stuck, or overwhelmed by life’s challenges and want a safe space to explore their deeper struggles. I’m especially drawn to clients who are seeking growth, healing, and meaningful change. My ideal patient is open to a broad range of treatment modalities — including medication, therapy, and lifestyle modification — so we can work together to create a comprehensive, whole‑person plan for their well‑being.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I utilize CBT strategies to help my patients understand how their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are connected. It teaches them to notice unhelpful thinking patterns and practice more balanced, effective ways of responding. The goal is to build practical skills that improve daily functioning.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
I utilize some DBT techniques to help my patients manage intense emotions and build healthier coping skills through mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. It combines acceptance and change strategies to support stability and growth. DBT is especially helpful for individuals who feel overwhelmed by their emotions or struggle in relationships.
Psychodynamic
I incorporate Psychodynamic therapy to help my patients understand how past experiences, unconscious patterns, and early relationships shape their current thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. It focuses on increasing self‑awareness and insight so individuals can make healthier choices and break long‑standing patterns. The work is reflective, exploratory, and centered on the therapeutic relationship as a tool for growth.
