Michelle Engler
Hi! My name is Michelle Engler. I am licensed professional counselor. I have been in the mental health field for around 30 years. I love working with all kinds of people and helping them accomplish their goals. I am a laid back and open-minded person. We are all different and have different needs and desires for ourselves.
I love working with all kinds of people and helping them accomplish their goals.
I want to be there to listen and to help guide you to meet your needs and thrive. I work via telehealth and also in person if you are local and want to come in.
First session
My goal for the first session is for the client to get to know me and the process and walk out the door or click off of the video with a newfound hope for themselves and their future. For them to feel lighter.
Strengths
I believe my clients know that I don't judge. I listen well and hold space for them to decide what they want to do. However, I will also challenge them to think about their approach at times, in order to bring them to the realization that there might be something they want to do differently. It is always about the client and what they want to do. I do not try and tell people what they should do. I will, however, help you break down your underlying assumptions, logic, and beliefs, if I think it will help you move forward.
Ideal clients
I love to see clients that are ready to take a step forward. Whatever their goals are, and wherever they are in the process, if they are willing to come and talk it out and try some things to move forward, it can be greatly rewarding. People's problems and concerns are varied. As well as the severity. Being ready to get that help and be open with someone is the key.
Origin story
It has always felt natural to me to talk with people and especially to listen. Getting to know who they are, is interesting to me. I love continuing to learn about how the mind works and ways to become the best version of ourselves. Being there for people is important. Using my experience and skills is a satisfying way to help.
Ongoing work together
In sessions, we will periodically talk about symptoms and their severity, life changes, and feelings to help determine our progress. I will also check in regularly to see if we need to do anything differently and to find out what is helping and what isn't.
Treatment methods
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use this method of therapy often to teach about how our thoughts, feelings, and actions are all connected. This focus is on your present, to help you identify automatic, negative thoughts and replace them with more balanced realistic ones. It gives you tools to change your emotional reactions and behaviors, giving you more control and confidence.
Interpersonal
This method has to do with your relationships and social interactions and how they affect your mental health. By improving communication and conflict resolution skills, your emotional well-being improves too. This can include things like grief and loss, role transitions, role disputes, and interpersonal deficits.
Person-centered (Rogerian)
This method is an overall way to look at things in that it is a person-centered theory that focuses on an individual being the ultimate expert on their own life and that they possess an internal capacity for positive change if given the right conditions, including an empathic and genuine therapist or person to help.
