As a licensed therapist, I specialize in helping others heal from their trauma. My true passion is being able to watch as my clients understand themselves on a deeper level, feel empowered and in control of their lives, and let their trauma become a part of their story rather than letting it dictate their lives.

You've already survived your trauma. Let's work together to keep it in your past, so you can feel safe and empowered in the present.

I love using EMDR to facilitate true healing, and DBT/CBT/TF-CBT to help clients learn the skills they need to manage symptoms as they come up. Every client I work with is met with warmth, a safe space to work through the deep pain, and acceptance at every level. Come as you are and we'll work together to get you to the most powerful version of you.

First session

Your first session with me will feel like two experts coming together to create a game plan for your healing goals. You know what things work best for you (structure vs. casual, getting deep quickly vs. getting to know each other first, etc.) and I will provide the therapeutic knowledge to get us where we need to go based on what works best for you. Fair warning that I do have a spiel about policies, confidentiality, and safety that we'll need to go through first, but after that our first session will be all about what brought you to therapy, what your goals are, and how we're going to work together to achieve those goals.

Strengths

The most important things to me as a therapist are: that my clients feel safe and heard by me, that we are always actively working towards healing, and that my clients feel empowered in their own healing process. What this looks like in practice is basically that I provide a warm and non-judgmental environment where clients feel comfortable talking about the hard things. I ensure that my clients know they are the experts on their own lives, I'm the mental health expert, and we'll combine our expertise to figure out which treatment methods work best for them. We work together, every step of the way, so that they always feel in control of their own healing. Those who have survived trauma have already experienced a loss of control, I will never allow them to feel that loss in our sessions. I can provide structure, guidance, support (and gently pointing out when they are stalling their own progress!), but my clients are always in control of what their healing looks like.

Ideal clients

As client and therapist, we will do great work together if you have experienced trauma and are someone who has lost your sense of self or purpose, often feels stuck in emotional overwhelm, or feels hopeless and disempowered. I specialize in trauma-informed care and I find myself most often working with girls and women who have experienced sexual assault or other types of violence. As a POC and the daughter of an immigrant, I also feel closely connected to the traumas and inequities experienced by marginalized communities. If you've experienced an event(s) that has led you to feel disempowered or lost, let's work together to help you find your way back to yourself and to your power.

Treatment methods

EMDR

EMDR is a powerful tool to help heal trauma. While talk therapy and coping skills can help you learn how to navigate your trauma symptoms better, EMDR works to actually heal the trauma wounds themselves. Just like any other wound, your body wants to naturally help you heal. EMDR is a process that removes blockages, so that your brain CAN move towards natural healing. I love using EMDR with my clients who have found that talk therapy and coping skills just aren't enough.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT)

I have found DBT to be extremely helpful for clients who thrive with structure. If you need concrete skills to feel in control of your own healing, DBT is one of the best methods for putting your power back into your hands. I'll be right there with you while you learn the skills and structure to feel empowered.

Psychodynamic

I integrate psychodynamic therapy into all my sessions, whether its our main type of work together or not. I believe that understanding where certain behaviors, difficulties, patterns, etc. came from allows us to better target those concerns when we start to work towards healing.

Trauma-Focused CBT

I use Trauma-Focused CBT with adolescent clients. This is a method of CBT that allows for parent/guardian participation. Although my main client will be your teen, TF-CBT allows me to help parents understand how best to help their own children. Trauma is a complicated diagnosis and teens need as much support as possible during the healing process, which is why its so important that parents are a part of this method.
