Hello, my name is Steven Nguyen. I am a licensed Clinical Social Worker with a decade of experience working with youth, adults, and families. I have BA in Psychology and Social Behavior with minors in Criminology and Sociology from University of California Irvine and a Masters in Social Work from California State University Dominguez Hills. I am currently licensed in California as a Clinical Social Worker from Board of Behavioral Sciences and have Pupil Personnel Services Credential from the California Teaching Commission. I am a Board Certified Diplomate with the American Board of Clinical Social Work. My career has spanned many different settings such as child welfare, inpatient psychiatric hospitals, school districts, and even clinical supervision. I aim to provide a safe and nonjudgmental space in which you can feel authentically yourself. My belief in this approach is to empower you to embrace the challenges of life and overcome obstacles that may stand in your way. I understand that change is not easy and truly think that going at a pace that you're comfortable with will lead to effective change. Life is hard and I would be honored to help you navigate the twists and turns to help you achieve your goals!
In our first session, you can expect introductions and discussion regarding the reason you are seeking therapy. Together both of us with work towards helping you achieve whichever goal you're striving for.
I feel that one of my biggest strengths is the ability to empathize. Empathy is the ability to relate to the experiences of others, to feel what others are feeling, and to understand to some degree how and why people think the way they do. I think that empathy is a choice that is foundationally strengthened by the experiences a person goes through. I believe empathy is a strong factor in helping me build compassion and communication skills to help me work with you.
In my experience, I've worked with individuals across different lifespans. My primary experience though is with youth (5-17) and young adults (18-30), but I have a fair amount of experience with individuals in middle adulthood (31-45). May of the individuals in these age groups go through similar stages in life and sometimes have difficulties with the issues life presents them.
