LCSW, 5 years of experience
Hi there! I'm Megan, and I'm a therapist specializing in working with individuals struggling with anxiety and/or the impact of trauma. I have a passion for working with those struggling with social anxiety and making authentic connections. It can be challenging to move past long-held beliefs that hold us back from living the life we want, especially when those beliefs are rooted in traumatic experiences. I support clients in moving past these beliefs and experiences in order to live a life not dominated by anxiety or trauma. I work with clients in a relational and attachment-focused style, meaning that I use our therapeutic relationship to support my clients' understanding of how they show up for themselves and others. I believe that the therapeutic relationship is the key to growth and healing. Therapy is a place both to examine our personal lives and how our lives are impacted by social contexts. I aim to honor the identities of my clients, have a social justice-informed lens in therapy, and am always open to feedback about how I can better serve my clients! I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of California and have worked as a therapist with individuals, children, and families for five years, and have been in human services field for 10 years. I have worked with a wide range of client concerns, from mild social anxiety to postpartum depression to post-traumatic stress disorder.
In our first session, we will talk about what has brought you to therapy and goals for our time together. There is no pressure to have it all figured out in the first session, it will just be a starting point for our work together! We may also discuss your previous experiences with therapy (if any) and set expectations for treatment. The first session will be focused on getting to know each other and figuring out how therapy can support you in your goals.
I believe my greatest strength as a therapist is my desire to create a safe, nonjudgmental environment for clients in session. I believe that an authentic, caring connection is one of the most important factors in success in therapy, and I strive to make sure my clients feel seen and understood.
I love working with adults who are seeking a space to process their past experiences and/or a desire to work on reducing their anxiety and negative self-talk.
I use psychodynamic theory to support clients in understanding how current challenges connect with past experiences. I support clients in gaining insight into their behaviors and experiences, which then opens the door for long-lasting, meaningful change.
In my work with clients, we will often discuss their early childhood experiences, particularly their relationships with parents/caregivers. Our early relationships often create a blueprint for how we show up in relationships with others later in life, and if we did not always receive the care we needed as children, it can cause us to fall into unhealthy patterns. Through looking back at our early experiences, we can explore how to get those unmet needs fulfilled in a way that feels productive and healthy.
Child-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP) is a form of family therapy for young children and their caregivers who have experienced traumatic events. I have completed the full CPP training and consultation for CPP/family therapy cases. I am available for CPP with families through Grow, though currently I can only do virtual sessions with Grow clients.
Providing trauma-informed care is the basis for my work with clients. For me, being trauma-informed means letting the you lead and working at a pace that feels good for you. It also means creating a safe, nonjudgmental environment in therapy and acknowledging how trauma can impact our views of ourselves, others, and the world at large.
