About me

You've found your way to me, Christina Carr Licensed Clinical Social Worker, and focused collaborative therapist. I was drawn to this work because I’ve seen how much the world around us—and how we interact with it—can impact our health and well-being. My background began in community development, fueled by a passion to help people live fully where they are. In my clinical work, I do this by focusing on those navigating grief, trauma, and life transitions. Throughout my career, I’ve worked with survivors of natural disasters, victims of crime, and people facing the death of someone important. I’ve learned that healing isn’t about fixing someone—it’s about bearing witness, honoring their reality, and reconnecting them to what’s meaningful. I do this with a compassionate and warm style, while also having an upfront and direct approach. I respect the people I get to talk to and am upfront and clear about why we are talking. This work continues to teach me how powerful it is to be seen and supported in moments of change and loss. That belief still motivates me every day.

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

Our first session is a time for us to connect, explore what brought you here, and imagine what the road ahead could look like. Whether it’s a long-standing issue or a recent event that’s stirred things up, we’ll talk about what’s on your mind and what you’d like to change. We’ll also review therapy logistics like confidentiality, scheduling, and informed consent—but I’ll guide you through these steps with warmth and transparency. I often mention what a final session might look like, too—not because we’re rushing, but to remind us both that the goal is growth and eventually, closure. My practice often focuses on short-term therapy, so we’ll talk about a flexible timeline that fits your needs. The first session may feel new or unfamiliar—but I’m here to help you feel grounded as we begin the process.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

Therapy is a sacred space where you can be fully seen and heard without judgment. I’m straightforward, calm, and collaborative—engaging with the details of your life and context while providing clear, honest feedback. Together, we’ll navigate whatever emotions arise—tears, laughter, anger, or numbness—building trust so you feel safe to explore and grow. In a season of treading water, it can be hard to imagine the future. My goal is to empower you to integrate the jagged parts of your story, and move from surviving to thriving. I do this by helping you name your reality and adjust to it while moving toward your personal goals. I specialize in tailoring evidence-based therapy to your real-world context, whether that’s through pet therapy, mindfulness, or other creative tools. Ultimately, I aim to work myself out of a job by supporting your self-awareness and resilience.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

You’re here because you’re ready to talk—maybe something has shifted, or you’re looking for space to explore change. Finding the right person to simply listen can feel like a big step. I specialize in grief, loss, and life transitions, bringing a trauma-informed and compassionate approach tailored to what works best for you. Whether you’re navigating a major life event or facing unexpected challenges, you’ve already done the hard work of deciding to start therapy. I’d be honored to partner with you from here. The folks I connect with come from many walks of life. Some are clinicians or first responders who are just starting to notice they need the same kind of care they give others. Others may be new to therapy and seek support after a recent tragedy, death, or unexpected shift in life. Often, they come in feeling disconnected from how they thought life would be and are ready to understand what’s changed and how to move forward. I focus on grief, trauma, and life transitions—supporting people through moments of rupture and helping them reconnect to themselves. Together, we’ll explore how your past and present experiences shape your feelings, relationships, and identity. In that process, windows open—broadening your options and building your coping capacity. Whatever your background, we’ll tailor tools to support the goals that matter most to you.

My treatment methods

Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)

I have extensive experience helping folks explore the connection between thoughts, feelings and behaviors. Sometimes that exploring causation or interrupting cycles.

Grief Therapy

I have specialized in grief therapy, specifically companioning with folks grieving the life of an important person, grieving an important animal, or grieving a life change. My approach is compassionate and collaborative, using the companioning model, walking through your specific needs as you acknowledge the loss, adjust to the loss and changes, and find ways to connect to your life and goals and continue living.

Motivational Interviewing

This method is helpful for empowering people ready to change, connecting with tools and approaches that folks already possess and find personal reasonsfor lasting sustainable change.

Experiential Therapy

I'm passionate about forms of therapy and coping that bring us to the present moment and activate how we connect with the world. That has included hiking and experiential crafts and camps, but virtually could look like guided doodling while we talk.

Strength-Based

Because my approach to therapy has the person I am talking to at the center of it, strengths based just makes sense. A person's strengths are what have drawn them to seek help and to address the change they wish to see.
