New to Grow
Hi. My name is Norma Thomas and I am a bilingual psychotherapist and licensed psychological assessor authorized to practice counseling and psychology in the state of Kentucky. I serve the community as a mental health specialist with more than 10 years of experience in various approaches: I offer psychotherapy and psychological assessments in English andd Spanish for adolescents and adults. If you are going through difficult times that are causing you distress or stress, I can help you. The goal of each session is for you to gain a new perspective on your personal challenges, recognize the resources available within yourself and your environment, redefine the meaning of your life, and live it to the fullest.
In our first session, we will meet in a welcoming environment where you are free to express yourself without judgment in the language that feels most natural to you, knowing you will be heard and understood. Together, we can converse about what brings you to therapy, explore your current challenges, and assess background information. You can expect to have ample opportunity to ask questions and learn about my approach as a psychotherapist. We will work during this first session to co-create a personalized, evidence-based treatment plan tailored to your unique needs and goals. We will continue navigating the difficult time in your life and cultivate lasting resilience. This will remain a dedicated space for healing and growth.
My approach is holistic, rooted in empathy and cultural sensitivity and tailored to meet the psychological needs of individuals across the adult lifespan. I strive to work collaboratively with individuals to help them gain insight and develop practical coping strategies for lasting change. My dual licensure in counseling and psychology allows me to more effectively address complex, co-occurring disorders while tailoring my interventions to fit the individual respecting our individual differences. You can expect to benefit from a warm, non-judgmental environment where intersectional identities are validated, empowering you to cultivate resilience and lasting healing.
There is no single "ideal client" at my practice as human experiences and healing pathways are inherently diverse. Instead, I welcome individuals from all walks of life who are seeking a compassionate, safe, and collaborative space to heal and grow. This includes bilingual (English/Spanish) individuals seeking culturally responsive care; members of the BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ communities looking for an affirming, intersectional environment; and those navigating the complex intersection of mental health challenges and other forms of identity. Whether you are a young adult processing a major life transition, an individual seeking structured, evidence-based recovery from trauma and PTSD, or someone attempting to process thoughts and feelings about different aspects of their lives, you will find a tailored approach here. My practice meets you exactly where you are, honoring your unique background, pace, and goals to co-create a path forward.
Adlerian principles are integrated into my practice, utilized in therapy in the following ways: • A holistic and goal-oriented focus: the focus of therapy is in understanding the your self-selected goals and the "driving force" behind your desire for change, helping you to align your daily actions with your future aspirations • Emphasis on social interest and community: therapy with emphasis on the human need for belonging and connection • Overcoming feelings of inferiority and building encouragement: within a warm, non-judgmental environment, I serve as a supportive partner, using encouragement to help you to recognize your inherent strengths, reclaim agency, and navigate difficult life transitions
In practice, Positive Psychology in our sessions is helpful for: • Strengths-based assessment and empowerment • Fostering hope and future-oriented goals to enable you to not only reduce distress, but also actively building a fulfilling life, cultivating positive emotions, and establishing a sense of purpose • Mindfulness and Self-Compassion: to develop self-compassion, reduce self-criticism, and foster a more constructive, optimistic relationship with yourself in navigating difficult life transitions • Cultivating resilience in our communities: validating systemic challenges while simultaneously reinforcing cultural pride, community connection, and personal agency to thrive despite societal stressors
CBT is a treatment method useful in my practice for: • Identifying and Challenging Maladaptive Thought Patterns • Developing Practical Coping Strategies • Integration with Mindfulness and Trauma Care • Empowerment Through Actionable Goals
