I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapy in Texas with 4+ years of professional work experience. I received my bachelor’s degree in Art from Texas Lutheran University in 2010 then attended Abilene Christian University in Dallas, Texas where I received my master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy in May of 2021. In my free time, you can find me hanging out with my precious family and my dogs, Dottie, Minnie, and Annie. I enjoy watching movies with my husband (especially Star Wars and Lord of the Rings), reading, singing and dancing in the car with my son, and telling corny jokes.
In our first session together, I usually like to introduce myself both personally and professionally. I like to express my views of therapy and what kind of work that I do. We will discuss confidentiality, the risks of therapy, and the limits to both of those. I make sure there's plenty of time for questions to be asked and concerns to be expressed. The most important thing to me is that a comfortable, trusting, non-judgemental environment is created between myself and my clients. The remainder of the session is spent discussing what brought the person into therapy. I like to listen to their story and ask clarifying questions to meet them where they are at.
I truly enjoy working with people from all walks of life. Over the 4+ years of practicing, I've met so many different people with so many different stories. No matter how different our lives look, it seems like we can always find a connection somehow, even if it is just both being people with experiences. Working as a therapist is a true joy and I feel honored that people allow me to have a glimpse into their lives and their struggles.
Everyone has a story about their life. This story is formed through what people tell themselves, what others tell them, and what society tells them. In Narrative work, we identify the client's story, process through it, and determine whether this story fits how they want to live their life. From there, we work together to put goals in place along with coping strategies to help them achieve their ideal story.
Integrating a person's Christian beliefs into counseling can be helpful in many ways including building support systems, creating and maintaining hope, and giving access to more coping skills. A person could also be more invested in personal growth and work when their beliefs are involved.
CBT work is a straight-forward, effective method that involves identifying a client's core beliefs related to the problems or struggles they are experiencing, working together to find the truth, and setting goals that would alter the client's core beliefs to match the truth.
Integrating a person's faith into counseling can be helpful in many ways including building support systems, creating and maintaining hope, and giving access to more coping skills. A person could also be more invested in personal growth and work when their beliefs are involved.
I incorporate Narrative work into Couples Counseling by determining each person's story within the relationship and working together to build a united story that both people can agree on, support, and work toward.
