Julie Gass, MSW

(she/her)8 years of experience

Hello there! My name is Julie and I am a Licensed Independent Social Worker. If you've joined the Grow Community looking for help with mental health barriers that are keeping you from living the life you want, then, please read on! I am trained as a clinician for adult individuals who come from varied and diverse backgrounds. The focus of my work with clients has been in the areas of sexual assault and crisis intervention, oncology, end-of-life issues, grief and recently pet loss and compassion fatigue. Through working with people during some of the worst moments of their lives, I have gained experience and a keen understanding of how to help someone create hope out of hopelessness. Often, I do this by addressing the trauma, depression, and anxiety that come along with big life changes. It is courageous to take the first step in seeking out therapy. It is even more courageous to sit down with someone and share your biggest vulnerabilities. I am here to talk it through with you and help you feel less alone, form new perspectives on your life, and begin to enact change.

First session

Initially, during the first session, you can expect to learn more about how I work with clients, and I will learn more about what kind of help you are seeking. I intend for you to have this space to see if we are a good fit, and if you would like to begin an ongoing therapeutic relationship. I truly believe that most of the power of therapy comes from a solid relationship based on trust and mutual respect, and it is important to feel that with the person you choose to work with. As we continue our therapy together, you can expect warmth, humor, curiosity, honesty and regard from me. Our sessions will focus on the issues you brought to therapy, and anything else we discover together along the way.

Strengths

I've spent the majority of my career working in the areas of serious illness, end-of-life, grief and bereavement. I find this a special time to be with clients because everything counts when you are in the position of reflecting on your life. Often, this brings up anxiety, depression, feelings of inadequacy, and guilt. It has been my honor to help people overcome these feelings, so they can focus on their health, family and close relationships.

Ideal clients

I am focused on clients who are grieving, bereaved, caregivers, dealing with serious illness, work stress, burnout, compassion fatigue, life changes, anxiety, depression, pet loss.
