New to Grow
I am Marcia Williams-Young, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker based in New York City with over a decade of experience supporting adults through trauma, intimate partner violence, anxiety, depression, and self-esteem challenges. My approach is warm, direct, and deeply person-centered. I believe healing is possible for everyone, and I am committed to meeting every client where they are and walking alongside them toward a life beyond trauma.
Our first session is a space for you to share what brought you to therapy and what you are hoping to get out of it. I will ask questions to better understand your history, your strengths, and your goals. There is no pressure to share everything at once. My priority is that you leave feeling heard, respected, and clear about what our work together can look like.
What sets my practice apart is my real-world clinical experience working with survivors of intimate partner violence, sexual assault and complex trauma. I bring a deeply relational approach to every session, honoring each client’s unique story and pace. Clients often tell me they feel safe being honest in our work together, and that is something I work hard to protect.
I work best with adults who are ready to explore the connection between their past experiences and present-day struggles. My ideal clients are navigating the effects of trauma, intimate partner violence, sexual violence, anxiety, depression, or low self-esteem and are seeking a safe, affirming space to heal. I am especially drawn to working with survivors who are rebuilding their sense of self and reclaiming their lives.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use CBT to help clients identify and challenge unhelpful thought patterns that contribute to anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem. In our work together, we explore the connection between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, building practical skills to create lasting, meaningful change.
Dialectical Behavior (DBT)
DBT is a core part of my practice, particularly with clients navigating emotional dysregulation, trauma, and relationship challenges. I draw on DBT skills including distress tolerance, mindfulness, and interpersonal effectiveness to help clients build a life worth living without abandoning who they are.
Psychodynamic
My psychodynamic work helps clients explore how past experiences, relational patterns, and unconscious processes shape present-day struggles. This approach deepens self-awareness and supports healing at the root level, which I find especially valuable when working with survivors of intimate partner violence and complex trauma.
