Aidylee Guzman
I’m a Latina mental health professional, licensed as a Professional Counselor in Arizona and as a Psychologist in Puerto Rico, with more than 10 years of experience across clinical practice, leadership, and mentorship. As a bilingual provider fluent in Spanish and English, I understand that language, culture, family experiences, and identity can deeply influence how we understand mental health and healing process. My approach is culturally responsive, trauma-informed, compassionate, and collaborative. I strive to create a welcoming and emotionally safe space where you can speak openly, feel understood without judgment, and explore your experiences at a pace that feels comfortable for you. I believe therapy should honor your individuality, strengths, values, and lived experiences rather than rely on a one-size-fits-all approach.
I believe therapy should honor your individuality, strengths, values, and lived experiences rather than rely on a one-size-fits-all approach.
Together, we will work toward greater self-understanding, emotional balance, and meaningful change. My role is to walk alongside you, helping you recognize patterns, strengthen your existing resources, develop practical coping skills, and reconnect with the parts of yourself that may have been overshadowed by difficult experiences or life transitions. -Helping you find peace of mind, one step at a time.
First session
Your first session is an opportunity for us to begin building trust and understanding what brought you to therapy. You will not be expected to tell your entire story, discuss anything before you feel ready, or arrive knowing exactly what you need. We will review confidentiality, explore your current concerns, identify your strengths and priorities, and begin clarifying what you hope will change. With individuals, I focus on understanding your experiences, needs, culture, and personal goals. When working with couples or families, I create a balanced space where each person can feel heard while we identify shared concerns and patterns affecting the relationship. My hope is that you leave your first session feeling welcomed, understood, and less alone—with a clearer sense of direction and confidence that we can move forward together at a pace that feels safe and manageable.
Strengths
I bring warmth, curiosity, cultural sensitivity, and more than 10 years of clinical and leadership experience into each session. As a bilingual Latina therapist who has practiced in both Puerto Rico and Arizona, I understand how culture, language, family expectations, immigration experiences, and major life transitions can shape the way we view ourselves and seek support. My approach is genuine, collaborative, trauma-informed, and adaptable. I do not believe in using the same style with every client. Some moments call for quiet presence, patience, and compassionate listening; others benefit from gentle honesty, thoughtful questions, and respectful challenge. I pay close attention to what each client needs in order to feel both emotionally safe and meaningfully supported. Clients can expect a space where they do not have to arrive with the “right” words or have everything figured out. Together, we will explore patterns with curiosity, recognize existing strengths, develop practical coping skills, and work toward changes that feel realistic and personally meaningful. My goal is to help clients feel genuinely understood while also encouraging the insight, confidence, and self-trust needed to move forward.
Ideal clients
My ideal client is an adult who may appear capable and resilient on the outside but feels overwhelmed, disconnected, anxious, or emotionally exhausted inside. They may be navigating trauma, difficult relationships, family or parenting concerns, grief, cultural adjustment, immigration experiences, identity questions, or a major life transition. They may also be struggling with boundaries, self-esteem, emotional regulation, or patterns they understand intellectually but find difficult to change. I especially enjoy supporting women, young adults, parents, immigrants, and Spanish-speaking clients who want therapy to honor their culture, values, family experiences, and individuality. They do not need to have everything figured out or know exactly where to begin. They only need to be willing—or even cautiously curious—about understanding themselves more deeply. My ideal client wants therapy to be both compassionate and purposeful. They value having a safe, nonjudgmental space to process their experiences while also receiving thoughtful questions, practical tools, and gentle encouragement to move toward meaningful change. Together, we can work toward greater emotional balance, healthier relationships, stronger boundaries, increased self-trust, and a more authentic connection with themselves.
Treatment methods
Strength-Based
I use a strengths-based approach to help clients recognize the resilience, abilities, values, and resources they already possess—even when life’s challenges have made those strengths difficult to see. Rather than focusing only on symptoms or problems, we explore what has helped them cope, survive, and move forward. Together, we build on those existing strengths, develop practical skills, and identify realistic steps toward their goals. My role is to support clients in reconnecting with their sense of agency, confidence, and capacity for meaningful change.
Trauma-Focused CBT
I use trauma-informed CBT to help clients understand how past experiences may influence their current thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and relationships. We work collaboratively to identify unhelpful patterns, develop coping and emotional-regulation skills, and create more balanced ways of thinking. Throughout this process, I prioritize safety, trust, choice, cultural sensitivity, and the client’s individual pace. Clients are never pressured to discuss traumatic experiences before they feel ready; instead, we focus on building stability, strengthening existing resources, and supporting meaningful change without judgment or retraumatization.
Motivational Interviewing
I use motivational interviewing to help clients explore mixed feelings, clarify what matters most to them, and identify their own reasons for making meaningful changes. Through open-ended questions, reflective listening, and genuine curiosity, I create a collaborative and nonjudgmental space where clients can examine barriers without feeling pressured. Rather than telling clients what they should do, I support them in strengthening their motivation, recognizing their capabilities, and choosing realistic next steps that align with their values, goals, and readiness for change.
Acceptance and commitment (ACT)
I use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help clients develop a more flexible relationship with difficult thoughts and emotions rather than feeling controlled by them. Through mindfulness, acceptance, self-compassion, and values exploration, clients learn to make room for uncomfortable internal experiences while remaining connected to the present moment. Together, we identify what matters most to them and translate those values into realistic, meaningful actions. The goal is not to eliminate every painful feeling, but to help clients respond more intentionally and build a life that feels authentic and purposeful.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients understand the connection between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. Together, we identify patterns that may contribute to distress, examine them with curiosity rather than judgment, and develop more balanced and helpful perspectives. I also incorporate practical coping strategies, problem-solving skills, and behavioral changes that clients can apply in everyday life. The process is collaborative and tailored to each client’s culture, experiences, strengths, and personal goals.
