New to Grow
I’m Jarita Lindsey‑Carter, a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and the founder of TherapyMatters KC. I believe therapy should feel like a real conversation with someone who gets it — not a lecture, not a cold clinical space. I work with kids, teens, and adults who are trying to make sense of anxiety, identity, relationships, or the weight of past experiences. My style is straightforward, compassionate, and practical. I help people understand what’s happening inside them and give them tools that actually make life feel lighter and more manageable.
In the first session, people can expect a calm, welcoming conversation where we get to know each other and set the tone for the work ahead. I ask thoughtful questions about what’s been going on, what brought them in, and what they hope will feel different. We move at their pace — no pressure, no rushing into anything they’re not ready for. I explain how therapy works, what my style is like, and together we decide what our next steps should be. Most people leave that first session feeling heard, understood, and a little lighter because they finally have a clear path forward.
I bring a calm, steady presence to my sessions, and people usually feel comfortable opening up pretty quickly. My style is warm, direct, and practical — I don’t just listen, I help you make sense of what’s happening and figure out what to do with it.
