New to Grow
Hi, I'm Detria or "D" . I've worked in behavioral health since 2009, specifically in Mental Health Rehabilitation (MHR), and I am deeply dedicated to helping clients find stability through real, practical change. I believe there are no small issues—every struggle deserves to be seen and heard—so I bring a forward-thinking, flexible approach to every session. The impact I've had on my clients is helping them move from feeling stuck and overwhelmed to using concrete coping skills that reduce depression, anxiety, and daily distress. Doing this work is always a joint effort; I guide, but you and I walk the path together to get you back to functioning at your best.
In your first session with me, you can expect a calm, judgment-free space where we simply talk about what's been going on in your life and why you decided to reach out for support. I'll ask you a few questions to understand your current struggles, your daily routines, and what stability looks like for you—but there's no pressure to share more than you're ready to. Together, we'll start identifying one or two small, manageable goals to work on right away, because I believe even small steps create real momentum. I won't hand you a list of coping skills on day one; instead, I'll listen first, then gently introduce practical tools that fit your unique situation. By the end of our first session, you'll have a clearer sense of what's causing your distress and a simple first action to try before we meet again—because our work together is a joint effort, and you should leave feeling heard and hopeful, not overwhelmed.
What stands out about my approach is that I combine structure with flexibility—I use evidence-based methods like CBT, but I never force a "one-size-fits-all" worksheet on you. I've worked in MHR since 2009, so I've learned that real progress happens when we meet you where you are, whether you're a child who needs visuals and play, an adolescent who needs autonomy, or an adult who needs to untangle years of negative thinking. My method focuses on small, measurable actions between sessions (like tracking moods or testing a new thought) because that's what creates lasting change, not just venting for an hour. The results my clients see include reduced anxiety and depression, fewer emotional outbursts, improved daily functioning, and most importantly, they stop feeling defined by their struggles. What I'm most proud of is that clients leave my care with actual coping skills they use for years—not just temporary relief—and they know they were truly seen and heard along the way.
I am best positioned to serve children, adolescents, and adults who are struggling with adjustment disorders, depression, anxiety, and stress-related life transitions—including divorce, relocation, job loss, academic pressure, family conflict, and social isolation. I work well with clients who may feel stuck in negative thought patterns ("I can't do anything right," "Something bad will happen," "People are judging me") or who experience emotional overwhelm, withdrawal, irritability, or avoidance behaviors. My ideal clients are those who are open to learning practical coping skills, willing to track their thoughts and feelings between sessions, and motivated—even if hesitantly—to reduce emotional distress and return to their previous level of functioning. I also effectively serve clients who may not initially understand why they feel "off" after a stressful life event and need psychoeducation and a structured, supportive approach to make sense of their reactions. Whether a child having tantrums after a move, an adolescent withdrawing from peers after bullying, or an adult feeling hopeless after job loss, I am best positioned to help clients replace unhelpful thinking with actionable strategies, rebuild daily routines, and improve interpersonal functioning.
Cognitive Behavioral (CBT)
I have extensive experience using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) in behavioral health settings with children, adolescents, and adults. With younger children, I use visuals, feeling thermometers, and cognitive coping cards to address anxiety, adjustment disorders, and disruptive behaviors. For adolescents, I apply thought records, behavioral activation, and exposure hierarchies to treat depression, social anxiety, and school refusal while fostering autonomy. With adults, I focus on cognitive restructuring, graded task assignment, and core belief modification to address major depression, generalized anxiety, and adjustment disorder. I have consistently seen CBT help clients replace unhelpful thinking patterns with effective coping strategies, leading to reduced symptoms and improved daily functioning.
