Hello, please call me Cindy. Thank you for stopping by. You took the first step to start looking for a therapist and I am glad you are here. I would love to help you get through and find a solution for what you are going through, whether it is to repair a relationship, manage, stress, anxiety, depression or feelings of overwhelm. Maybe you are trying to avoid burnout, make a career or school decision or find ways to better manage your time. I want to help you through this. Together we will identify which areas need work and get you back on a positive course. I use a holistic and down to earth approach, and I will provide you with a safe and non-judgmental space to heal. I will meet you with compassion and provide evidence-based techniques so you can grow and get back on a positive track with a better mindset. If this sounds like what you were looking for, let's get started!
In our first session will begin with a review of your assessments and intake form and then I will dive into questions about your hopes and dreams and the reason why you decided to come to therapy. I will ask about the specific challenges you are facing and what you want to achieve in therapy. Then together we will work to create goals to achieve a tailored treatment plan that will produce the results you seek as quickly as possible.
I often use a variety of tools to get results and have worked with many young professionals as well as more seasoned adults close to retirement. I am told my down to earth approach makes working with me easy.
I currently focus my work with individuals age 18 and older
Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) is an action-oriented approach to psychotherapy that stems from traditional behavior therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy. I will help you to stop avoiding, denying, and struggling with you inner emotions and, instead, accept that these deeper feelings are appropriate responses to certain situations that should not prevent you from moving forward in your life.
I have extensive experience using CBT in practice with clients who are experiencing anxiety, depression and trauma/PTSD. Clients who have strained and stressful relationships may also benefit from CBT. CBT helps to determine where the negative thoughts came from. Once the core or origin of the negative thought is determined then the negative emotions/behaviors can be replaced with more positive ones by working together to challenge the negative thoughts. Change comes after you begin to notice that you feel better when you are thinking more positively about yourself and your world.
I often work with BIPOC clients who have close cultural ties to their race and ethnicity. Being a POC-(Hispanic), I can relate to the family norms and expectations with in close family cultures and understand how they can have an impact.
I will sit with you as you uncover your past traumas and encourage you, over time to talk about the parts of your past that you are avoiding. As I encourage you to continue to talk about those painful situations, memories and feelings you have been avoiding, you will experience a steady decline to the negative impact the memories have on your life.
I will work with you to quickly find a solution, or in some cases, multiple options to the problem you are facing. I have often used this technique to successfully assist individuals make a decision about a college to attend, a career decision and whether or not to remain in a relationship.
