LISW, 5 years of experience
New to Grow
I have worked for several years to support clients in different phases of life from adolescence, high school, emergency psychiatric admission as well as outpatient services. I often work with clients who have a history of complex trauma and/or loss. I know firsthand that the dark days can feel unbearable, but there are better days ahead. I like to say that I can take clients from "surviving" to "thriving".
I know the first session can feel intimidating or cause anxiety. We will not get into anything "heavy" the first session, unless you want to. Our first session together will focus on getting to know each other, and I will ask questions about your upbringing, family/friends and current situation (housing, work, children/dependents).
My greatest strength is the ability to be positive and ease the fear. Often clients have challenges discussing their trauma history or current situation. While talking to me, you will be met with understanding and empathy; there will be no judgment.
I am experienced in working with clients with moderate-to-severe anxiety, depression and PTSD. I'm a solutions focused provider so while we will likely work together to set long-term goals, we will also do problem-solving to lessen the client's day-to-day load.
When we sit down and look at things, there is often something we can be grateful for. We're likely always going to want more, but chances are what you have is pretty good as well.
Sometimes we get into a pattern by having repetitive thoughts or actions that are not helpful to us. By identifying these unhelpful things, we can work to find better solutions.
Gottman Method can help provide new language to the same issues. When a couple is able to talk about a challenge with new skills, they're able to find a solution.
Grief is a journey that can encompass spirituality, religion and culture. I aim to assist in guiding clients through such an emotionally vulnerable time.
