About me

Abeke "Kay" Baker, LMFT, is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and a 2011 graduate of Mercer University School of Medicine’s Master’s program in Marriage and Family Therapy. With a career in mental health and social services that began at just 14 years old, Abeke brings over 18 years of hands-on experience to her work. She began as a youth counselor with the Red Cross Lock Key Kids safety program and has since served in diverse roles, including Program Director for Howard County Parks and Recreation in Columbia, MD—supporting youth and young adults with developmental disabilities, autism, and maladaptive behaviors—as well as working in inpatient crisis stabilization settings for both adolescents and adults. Founder of All 1 Family, Inc. Abeke is the founder of All 1 Family, Inc., a nonprofit community mental health organization based in Atlanta, GA. The organization is dedicated to supporting the mental wellness of LGBTQ+ individuals—especially people of color—by offering a safe, affirming space for clients to explore their identities and experiences with the support of culturally competent therapists. All 1 Family provides low-cost counseling services, including individual, family, group, and couples therapy. The clinicians—many of whom identify as LGBTQ+ or allies of color—bring lived experience and deep empathy to their work. Founder’s Statement “While working across inpatient and community-based mental health settings—providing crisis intervention, assessments, and psychotherapy—I noticed a troubling pattern: many LGBTQ+ individuals were seeking support but struggled to find providers who were affirming, empathetic, and nonjudgmental. This gap often led individuals to delay or forgo much-needed care. All 1 Family was born from the belief that everyone deserves a safe space to be seen, heard, and supported.”

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

Your first therapy session at All-1-Family, Inc. is an opportunity to get comfortable, share your story, and begin building a trusting relationship with your therapist. Our goal is to create a safe, welcoming, and affirming space for you to be yourself — no judgment, no pressure. Here’s what you can expect: Introductions & Confidentiality We’ll start by getting to know each other. Your therapist will explain how therapy works, review confidentiality, and answer any questions you might have about the process or your rights as a client. Paperwork & Intake Forms If you haven’t already completed them online, we’ll go over your intake forms together. These forms help us understand your background, goals, and any current challenges you’d like to address. Your Story & Goals This is your time to talk about what brought you to therapy. You can share as much or as little as you feel comfortable. Together, we’ll begin identifying your goals for therapy and what “feeling better” looks like for you. Creating a Plan Your therapist will work with you to create an individualized plan for care — one that fits your needs, schedule, and comfort level. We may suggest tools, coping strategies, or resources you can start using right away. Next Steps Before you leave, we’ll schedule your next session and discuss frequency (weekly, biweekly, or as needed). You’ll also have the opportunity to ask any remaining questions. Remember, the first session is just the beginning of your journey. There’s no right or wrong way to feel — whether you’re nervous, relieved, or unsure, we’ll meet you where you are and move forward together.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

My greatest strength is my ability to connect with people from all walks of life with authenticity and empathy. I create safe, inclusive spaces that empower individuals and families to heal, grow, and build resilience. I balance clinical expertise with compassion, ensuring that every client feels seen, heard, and supported.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

Our ideal clients are individuals and families seeking compassionate, affirming mental health care that honors their identities and experiences. We primarily serve LGBTQ+ youth and adults, as well as their parents, caregivers, and allies who are navigating emotional, social, and identity-related challenges. Many of our clients have experienced barriers to accessing quality mental health services due to limited insurance coverage, stigma, or lack of affirming providers. They come to All-1-Family, Inc. looking for a safe space where they can heal, grow, and learn healthy coping strategies. Our youth clients (ages 13–25) often seek support for issues such as anxiety, depression, bullying, self-esteem, and family acceptance. Our adult clients—parents, caregivers, and allies—often need education and emotional support to better understand and advocate for their LGBTQ+ loved ones. We are committed to meeting each person where they are, offering affordable, accessible, and culturally responsive therapy that promotes mental wellness, resilience, and self-acceptance.
