LMHC, 30 years of experience
New to Grow
Over the course of my career—as a school counselor, higher education instructor, and now a telehealth clinician—I have honed the ability to create trusting, empowering relationships with clients and their families. I value collaboration, transparency, and humor in therapy, and I strive to provide a space where clients feel both seen and celebrated. I help my clients identify their concerns and strengths. Then, we work together to develop a plan to capitalize on your strengths and address your concerns.
Our first session will be an opportunity to get to know one another, discuss what brings you to counseling, and begin to set goals to help you get to where you want to be.
I am client-focused, which means I want to help you achieve your goals. I will listen intently and share strategies to help you get where you want to be. You are ultimately in control of the direction of therapy.
I have helped many clients with difficulties related to anxiety, depression, behavior disorders, as well as deficits in executive functioning and impulse control/self-regulation. I have extensive experience helping individuals with ADHD and high functioning Autism Spectrum Disorders, and their families. I know how hard it can be to decide you need help and how it can be even harder to find the right match in a counselor. If you are motivated to make changes to improve your well-being, I would love to chat with you to answer your questions about my practice and to help you in your decision making.
I use ACT to help my clients develop psychological flexibility so they can respond more effectively to painful thoughts and feelings rather than getting stuck in avoidance or rumination. I help clients 1) Accept what’s out of their control and 2) Commit to actions that move them toward the life they want.
I use CBT to help my clients identify and change unhelpful patterns of thinking and behavior that contribute to emotional distress. We use the CBT Triangle to discover how one's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors impact each other. For instance, we discover how using cognitive restructuring can help us change negative thoughts into more positive thinking, which can then make positive changes to our feelings and behaviors.
I find Mindfulness-Based Therapy to be very effective for clients who are experiencing stress and anxiety. It helps to focus on the here and now, and develop an acceptance of one's thoughts and feelings.
