Hello, I am a licensed mental health counselor. I practice in Indiana. I have been a therapist for 6 years and a nurse for more than 30 years. I love being able to support my clients as they navigate life. I believe you are the expert in your lived experiences and my role is support you through those situations that feel like they did not come with instructions. My background as a nurse allows me to also acknowledge and support the role that physical health plays in your overall sense of well being.

What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?

In our first session, I want to focus on creating a relationship with you that is based in trust and caring. I belief the decision to seek counseling is a power move that deserves support and encouragement. I always ask my clients in their first session "what do you want me to know about you?" And I ask that because I truly believe you are the expert about you and I want to do my best to understand you and what you are looking to gain from counseling.

Explain to clients what areas you feel are your biggest strengths.

I believe my background in healthcare, my own lived experiences and my willingness to support my clients wherever they are are my strengths as a therapist. My willingness to show up for you to talk about the things in life that are hard, painful or confusing is something you can rely on.

Describe the client(s) you are best positioned to serve.

I love working with folks that are looking for a safe space to talk about the things in life that just do not seem to make sense. During our time together, we can explore alternatives ways of thinking, tools for managing emotions and skills to navigate relationships.

My treatment methods

Person-centered (Rogerian)

This approach is based on genuine caring for the person entering into therapy. My role as a therapist is to create a space where you feel accepted to address the things that are important to you. Life in 2025 can be hectic and chaotic, with pressures to meet expectations created by other people, social media or our own anxiety. I am feeling all of that too, by using a person centered approach I connect with you to address those concerns.

EMDR

EMDR provides an approach to address trauma and the negative beliefs that often become foundational following a trauma. I have been able to support my patients to address trauma and allow to become part of their story not all of their story.

Integrative

An integrative approach to therapy allows you and I to develop a plan of care and approach that is most suited to your way of thinking, feeling and behaving. For example, we might identify that a faulty thinking pattern is impacting well being, while also identifying the impact some health practices are also causing distress. With an integrative approach, as a therapist I can support you by developing a plan of care specific to you.

Grief Therapy

Grief therapy is specifically focuses on a loss that has been experienced. Sometimes that loss is relative to death, but can also be experienced in variety of other situations including the end of a relationship, a change in health, and/or an ending of important role in your life. I have spent several years working with grieving folks through our local grief center, including facilitating groups with folks that have experienced a death due to suicide, death to substances and losses relative to illness. The focus of grief therapy is to have a safe space to tell your story...however many times that takes.
