About Me I’m a dual board-certified Nurse Practitioner in both psychiatric mental health and family practice, with over 25 years of experience and additional advanced training. I offer psychiatric care through Lifesong Health, supporting adults with anxiety, ADHD, and mood changes—especially during the perinatal period or major life transitions. My approach is steady, practical, and focused on helping you feel more clear, capable, and grounded. I am here to support, educate, and when appropriate, prescribe medication. If you’re ready to consider medication, commit to consistent appointments, and put in the work needed for lasting improvement, I may be a great fit for your care. Visit Information Appointments are available via telehealth, with limited in-person availability in the Lynchburg, VA (Forest) area. Please Note You will receive additional forms from Lifesong Health via the Optimantra patient portal. Forms and consents must be completed at least 24 hours before your visit or your appointment may be canceled. Appointment reminders may come from both Grow Therapy and Optimantra—please check your email carefully. Late cancellations (<24 hours) or no-shows will incur a fee. I prescribe controlled medications conservatively and may not be the right provider for all patients. Past records will be reviewed as part of your intake.

Get to know me

In our first session together, here's what you can expect

In our first session, we’ll take time to explore what’s bringing you in, review your history, and begin identifying your goals for care. I’ll ask questions about your symptoms, health background, previous treatment experiences, and what’s worked—or not—for you in the past. My goal is to get a clear picture of your needs and help you feel heard, supported, and informed. We’ll also review what to expect moving forward, including whether medication may be appropriate, what follow-up looks like, and how we’ll work together to support your progress. If we decide to continue, I’ll begin forming a personalized treatment plan that may include education, lifestyle strategies, referrals, or prescriptions.

The biggest strengths that I bring into our sessions

I bring a calm, supportive presence and over 25 years of experience in both general and psychiatric care. I’m a strong listener and take time to truly understand each patient’s story. My greatest strengths include clear communication, thoughtful prescribing, and helping patients feel more stable, capable, and informed. I also value consistency and structure, which allows my patients to feel safe and supported while working toward lasting change.

The clients I'm best positioned to serve

I’m best positioned to support adults who are experiencing anxiety, ADHD, or mood changes—especially during the perinatal period, midlife, or other life transitions. My clients are often seeking a thoughtful, steady, and supportive provider who can help them navigate mental health concerns with education, collaboration, and when appropriate, medication. I work best with individuals who are ready to engage consistently, value a structured approach, and are committed to making meaningful progress over time.

My treatment methods

Integrative

I regularly incorporate therapy into my visits as part of a broader integrative psychiatric approach. My style blends person-centered (Rogerian) care, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, and supportive psychotherapy. I also utilize principles from Good Psychiatric Management (GPM) when working with clients who have borderline personality traits. Rather than offering long-term talk therapy, I use these tools within structured med management sessions to promote insight, emotional regulation, and behavioral change. Depending on the client’s needs, I may also incorporate lifestyle counseling, lab-informed treatment, supplement recommendations, and mind-body strategies. This integrative model supports clients in addressing both the biological and psychological roots of their symptoms in a practical, sustainable way.

Psychoeducation

Psychoeducation is a key part of how I work with clients. I believe people make better decisions about their mental health when they understand what’s happening in their brain, body, and environment. During sessions, I explain diagnoses, treatment options, medication effects, and behavioral patterns in plain language. I also provide education on how lifestyle factors—like sleep, nutrition, hormones, and stress—can influence mental health. My goal is to equip clients with the knowledge they need to feel more in control, reduce fear or confusion, and stay engaged in their care.

Supportive

Supportive therapy is woven into nearly every visit. I use it to create a safe, stable space where clients feel heard, respected, and emotionally grounded. My goal is to strengthen coping skills, reinforce progress, and help clients feel less alone as they navigate challenges. I validate their experiences while also encouraging insight, perspective shifts, and confidence in their ability to manage symptoms. Supportive therapy pairs well with medication management and psychoeducation, allowing clients to build trust and stay engaged in the process of healing and growth.

Trauma Informed Care

I practice from a trauma-informed perspective, which means I prioritize emotional safety, respect autonomy, and avoid re-traumatization during care. I understand that many clients—especially those with anxiety, mood disorders, or personality-related challenges—may have a history of trauma that affects how they experience relationships, treatment, and trust. I approach each person with empathy, clear communication, and predictable structure, allowing space for healing without forcing disclosure. When appropriate, I help clients build skills for emotional regulation and self-understanding before exploring deeper therapeutic work or medication changes.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-i)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a core part of my approach. I use CBT to help clients identify unhelpful thought patterns, increase awareness of emotional triggers, and develop more effective coping strategies. In session, we often explore the connection between thoughts, behaviors, and symptoms—especially for clients managing anxiety, ADHD, or mood changes. I guide clients in building insight, reframing negative self-talk, and practicing realistic, actionable steps between visits to improve daily functioning. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) is a targeted, evidence-based approach I use for clients struggling with chronic sleep difficulties. When appropriate, I provide psychoeducation on sleep hygiene, help restructure thought patterns around sleep, and implement behavioral techniques like stimulus control and sleep scheduling. This method allows clients to reset their sleep cycles and improve overall mental health without relying solely on medication.

Fawn spent plenty of time with me. She asked deep, open-ended questions. Fawn truly spent the time to get to know me. She isn't rushing the process and helping me figure out a diagnosis and appropriate treatment.
